Disney Finally Squashes Illegal Kiddie Gambling

This is sad. You really think the kids see it as gambling? No, they see it as fun.

It's a shame it's taken away because of overzealous adults. Just let the kids have fun. I used to love arcades and winning prizes. What exactly is the harm here?

I assume all this is in relation to HB 155, signed last year into law. This bill actually modifies Statute 849, so that's really what you should read to get the full context.

However, in any case, even if you take that $0.75 cent per play requirement...

CEC is exempt. TPT is kept at $0.012 - $0.015 per ticket, meaning you get 1.2 to 1.5 tickets per token. Even if you take individual game redemption (video non-ticket blended with redemption skill games) out of the mix, a HIGH TPT for a location would be $0.10, and probably should be closer to $0.045

If they were running $0.75 TPT, their merch costs would be so out of whack that they would have long since been the focus of corporate. The cash value of a ticket, according to company policy at CEC, is $.01. In other words, you can give a dollar to a cashier at the merch counter, and get credit for 100 tickets.

The law does NOT state that redemption points (e.g. tickets) cannot be accumulated and redeemed for higher value merchandise. As long as the individual redeemable value for the merchandise or prize per play is less than $0.75.

So, at worst, you'll see the bonuses get dragged back at CEC from 200 ticket top limits to 75 ticket. And, since that "value" definition in the law is related to the merchandise / prize, but it doesn't clarify "sale value" vs "cost value"...it gets muddier. The prizes are incredibly cheap (and I don't mean quality, I mean the actual cost to purchase them bulk). If you'd asked me several years ago I could have told you the per category costs per item (cause I would inventory and order them regularly)...now I don't recall...but it's WAY below 75 cents, even when you get up into the higher ticket categories. So, it gets muddier.

Tomorrowland Arcade space is rumored to be empty space, boarded up, potential retail or even a meet and greet. I heard it was closing but didn't know how soon.

I have a feeling that if Disney REALLY wanted to keep giving out tickets & prizes they would have lobbied the state to do so, and I don't see the state ever denying Disney what they want.

What about contests in specially marked products of (blank)? Is Florida going to shut that down? Was Charlie gambling when he bought that Wonka Bar hoping to find a Golden Ticket? WE ARE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS HERE, PEOPLE!

Truly classic. Only Disney. Only Disney.

You also must love the O-Sentinel. Still afraid to tackle the fact that TWDC is actively involved in real adult gambling through its licensing of Marvel and Lucasfilm characters to slot machine companies as well as for state lottery tickets, even after the NYT went after them last year.

Hey, Sandra, babe ... just keep ignoring the real news just like your predecessor did and Celebration Place might give you two minutes with an exec with a handler there and the questions all pre-determined, right Dr. Blondie?

I don't understand. Only Disney? They get knocked for following a law?

Not all crane machines are "rigged" we own an amusement company that has over 250 cranes on our route and not a single one of ours is setup as you say, as a prize can be won each play skillfully. Now I will say there are probably more operators running there cranes as you mentioned but don't be so quick to blanket all cranes that way. We have also been moving more cranes to a 1$ play until you win setup which has helped rebrand trust with the customer.
