Disney films that just don't exist.

While I was at WDW I noticed that whereas you could buy a TON of stuff, certain films seemed to be missing any form or representation there. I found nothing for:

The Emperors New Groove
Atlantis
Treasure Planet
Oliver And Company
The Sword And The Stone
The Black Cauldron

and actually very little for Robin Hood

With Robin Hood I am pretty sure I just missed something. But are these other films kind of looked down upon by Disneyphiles?

(I know I left out Home On The Range...but seriously...is there any question that one?)

It all comes down to what will sell. None of those movies , with the exception of Robin Hood, were hugely popular. Now personally I would love to see some love thrown Black Cauldron's way. At least remaster it and put it on Blu-Ray.

Not that I can remember. It seems, now that I think about it, that there is a jump from the 60's film on up to the 90's. Stitch is the only representative of the modern "non-Princess" films.

It's in reference to a scene where Obi-Wan Kenobi waves his hand to do a jedi mind trick in order to get the Stormtroopers to forget about the Droids they were looking for and not care about it anymore.

As for those films listed, I have seen Treasure Planet, Atlantis, and Emperor's New Groove stuff, just years ago.

The merchandise will tend to cycle through and be replaced with the newest hits (i.e. Pirates of the Caribbean, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Cars, Ratatouille, etc...).

Unless the films are considered "Disney Classics" you most likely won't see too much merchandise.

For example, I have occasionally seen Sword in the Stone items (such as trading pins) but like I said, they concentrate on their hot new items rather than their older films.

I do find it a bit ironic that the one film that hasn't ever been released on video (Song of the South) has a fairly decent selection of merchandise courtesy of Splash Mountain, yet these other films don't.

I have some Black Cauldron merchandise, most of it is old though. Every so often they release something new, pins I've found. You can also buy those sketches they sell, I have one of those.

I do have some original posters for Black Cauldron, as well as when it was re-released in the theatres as Taran and the Magic Cauldron. I also have some original art of it from the movie.

They did make one for when the film was released, and then, years later, during the Beanie Babies craze, they made a Gurgi one.

Still, I agree, you'd think they would have one, he is such a cute character.

That big gap between the 60's and the 90's is basically the time between Walt's death and the Eisner era. As in there were few notable animated features between Jungle Book and Little Mermaid.

Those films just aren't very popular and/or didn't do very well. I personally love "Oliver & Company", but I guess it didn't do well, despite Billy Joel's singing. Disney isn't going to sell merch for movies that aren't popular; they like to make money, not lose it.

Isn't the sword still in the stone over by the Merry-Go-Round? I know that they did away with the little show that went with it, but that's the most recent thing I can think of that went along with that show. I haven't been there in about 2 years, but has anyone noticed if Merlin still pops up in parades?

They had that Meet-n-Greet for a short while with the characters of Atlantis and as much as I liked the styling of that movie, it really wasn't that good.

Other than Cruella popping up in parades, Fantasmic and Meet-n-Greets, what else from 101 Dalmations is there? I've been thinking about it and I really can't come up with anything or how about Fox and the Hound?

Oliver and Company was a financial success in the theatres so this one slightly surprises me, the problem is that it is now completely overshadowed by everything that came after. It was a decent movie, but I don't think many kids have seen it which would be a good reason to maybe rerelase it...another similar movie in The Great Mouse Detective, it is again overshadowed by everything that came after the Little Mermaid.

Horace and jasper appeared at the Studios parade in Paris in like 2002 or maybe 2003. But yeah otherwise i don't see much of them. i've never seen the fox in the hound characters or basil the great mouse detective (i still haven't seen that i don't think.)
