The boys from New York needed something to do on their vacations

Wow, I’m surprised that the article has several inaccuracies. The below timeline is not how it played out.

2007 Gov. Charlie Crist signs an agreement with the Seminoles allowing them to have Las Vegas-style slots, blackjack and baccarat at their seven tribal casinos. Legislature allows card rooms to host domino games, raises bet limits from $2 to $5, allows for regulated instant bingo and regulated poker tournaments and increases hours of operation for slot machine operators.

2008 Miami-Dade voters authorize Las Vegas-style slot machines at their horse and dog track and jai alai fronton. The state Supreme Court rules that Crist did not have the authority to make the deal with the Seminoles without legislative approval. The tribe rushes to get its table games installed.

2009 Legislature passes a bill that expands gambling and opens the door to no-limit, 24-hour-a-day poker games on weekends and possibility of video lottery terminals at dog and horse tracks if approved via local referendum; Crist signs expansive gambling bill at Design and Architecture Senior High School in Miami-Dade.

I saw some amazing rock groups at the jai alai fronton in Miami in the 60s and 70s.

Yes, there's LOTS of gambling in Florida....

Yep. And many people who play high stakes.
Vegas isn’t the only destination to gamble, it’s just a different focus... a lot of vacationers want to gamble and be in a tropical area.

It is truly difficult to believe that Disney is fighting to keep gambling out of Florida because the company is building a Las Vegas inspired casino that is scheduled to open in 2019. Winner winner, chicken dinner!

The thread's title is about "keeping gambling out of Florida". Gambling is already in Florida. Disney is just trying to limit it.
This thread was started in 2017 well after the casinos you mentioned were already in Florida. This thread was started in reference to Disney along with the Seminole Tribe that operates the casinos you reference, financing the voters in charge initiative to get Amendment 3 on the ballot in 2018. They were successful in getting it on the ballot and it passing by a wide percentage.

It's inevitable that Disney will eventually turn one of the parks into an adult entertainment complex which will include gaming, Most likely EPCOT.

However until then Disney will fight tooth and claw to prevent anyone else from gaining the first mover advantage in the FL gaming market. Right now Disney owns the FL Govt.

Allowing in one or more of the big gaming companies would mean the possibility of being outbid for legislative goodies and Disney will never let that happen especially with the changes in Anaheim where Anaheim holds the whip hand for the first time in
decades.
Are you being serious? If this was meant to be sarcastic, then that is one thing. If you actually believe your first sentence, then I will have to disagree with you on so many levels.

We don't have the tourists so who is going to bring their money here? If we had the tourists we don't need more casinos
