News Disney Explores Amazon Prime-Like Membership Program to Offer Discounts and Perks

I can see Disney replacing AP's with this "prime"/loyalty based program. Much like casinos....the more you spend....the more perks you get. Just a thought so don't take this as insider info. Such a shift will continue to give more clout to those with money.

I have found out a bit more about this.

It’s a pilot scheme, which is free. People seem to be getting the email up to 3 months before their trip. Some people with trips in the first couple of weeks in December have got one.

You can send them a list of dining and any special experiences (Savi’s, tours etc) requests before your 60 day mark and they will book them for you.

That will probably come with the usual draw-backs of getting GS to book dining - being unable to modify them yourself. But it is like a concierge service, or a TA I guess.

What isn’t clear yet is whether this is for just “blue card” members, and if all resorts / room types are included.

Do they book them before 60 days? Or you send them at 60 days and then they book them AT 60 days?

If it's the former, I hate it a lot.

I've always argued Disney should replace APs with a true loyalty program.

APs swear they spend more? Prove it... and get rewarded for it. Tho I don't like the idea of 'paid membership' - that's just money grabbing. Give it a true loyalty program like Casinos and others have mastered for decades and entice your true whales and give the little people a little scratch back for their loyal behavior.

Lol do they? 🤡
I never spent more per trip but I was there almost every day so I did get gifted drinks and popcorn many times it came almost even for my pass.

I have an eye out for a mid December reservation. We're hitting some days our APs will be blacked out so I'd love to be and to be able to have a Fort Wilderness carriage tour + hoop dee doo booked.

APs were a strong - not foolproof - indicator of fandom/commitment to Disney.

At least in Orlando. The numbers didn’t lie.

So yes…they threw more in the pot in aggregate. It wasn’t much of a “budget” plan there.

Now Disneyland?…that’s debatable. There it always more of a way to save. Egregious costs in California was always a thing…now it just spread to Pennsylvania and Alabama too!

Actually Chrome on Android. Same difference
Me two weeks ago:

I love it when companies have my data. Without me asking, my phone tells me when there's an accident on my commute and I should take another route to save 20 minutes. BJ's sends me coupons for diapers when they know I'm running low. My TV suggests shows I might like based on shows it already knows I do like. My TV also knows not to show me mature content before 9pm because there are kids in my house. When I return from international travel, I get to skip the line at passport control because USCBP has my biometrics and they know I'm not a threat to national security. My thermostat adjusts itself to keep me comfortable year-round without me ever needing to touch it.

Location services? Enable. Cookies? Allow all. Ad preferences? Customize.

Hell yeah, track me harder daddy.

This announcement, along with Genie+, all of the mobile ordering, reservations and scheduling months in advance that have ruined the... lets go to disneyworld next week mentality. A place where you have to research, to be able to enjoy.

It makes me think of this...
Just because we can do something doesn’t mean we should..

I really wonder if anyone in Disney now asks that. In the end does this make the customer happier, or is this just because they can and some of it might mean a few more dollars, while alienating your guests.

I totally agree with you…

But you know this about reducing cost and investment. Nothing more. They want more income for lest cost.

That long predates Slaphead. Eisner/wells had the destination D thing with the same general premise.

One thing is for certain… there are no ‘discounts’ coming our way, just advertising (and then ultimately purchase) for products and services we’d otherwise have not bought (nor probably needed/wanted).

Like everything Big Bob does, this is ultimately for the shareholders, not the customer.
