I'm flying down in a week to do the TOT run and also go to MNSSHP for the first time; very excited!

I'll be sure to do a trip report when I return...
I'm doing the same thing! I've had some knee problems pop up, so I've been training on a bike to get rid of the impact. I'm determined to force myself through the 13k. I'm sure I'll have to take a few pain killers before the race, but whatever.

i dont post on here often, but do lurk quite a lot, but what are peoples thoughts on Disney using such themes as "food and wine"?

Disney could have so many themes, i feel it would be more special with themes based around the parks / characters / films etc rather than some obscure theme as food and wine?

bit strange in my view - but i am no expert

this is the reason i am a little disappointed that i didnt get the chance to do the tot13k as it seems such a cool theme, if only they had replaced it with something else themed like this :(

All the runners I know are fond of food and wine. I've seen 60 year old men "carb loading" by drinking beer at 7 am before a 5K race.

But I hear ya. To me, October means 2 things: Oktoberfest and Halloween. A Disney Halloween themed half marathon run at night would be great fun. Failing that, a food and wine 1/2 marathon themed around the Epcot festival is a good alternative in my book.

It's an 18 minute/mile pace - you can easily walk that. And even if you can't (sorry about your knee problems!), it's a less strict race than the marathons - the disney sweep carts will whisk you to a point further ahead on the race course if you're falling behind, and let you walk/run again for a while, and then do the same thing again if necessary. They will let you finish the race pretty much no matter what - the point is to have fun!

Get better soon & Good Luck :)
I'm hoping to do the half marathon next 2011...I know thats a long way off....but i'm old & need to train LOTS!!!

Thanks, as soon as I get rid of this cough, I'll be back in business.

I wanted to run the half but it was full. I actually had planned on running a half on Halloween in New Orleans, but alas...

I would love it to be an evening event, it's tough to get around WDW that early in the morning. I had a $25 cab ride to the Wide World of Sports on Sunday for the RftT 10K.

The races are expensive enough without adding that cost in every time.

I ran the Chicago marathon this past weekend - I talked to the Disney Endurance Rep, he would not go into any details about the announcement today other than "races in the fall were too close together, yet too far apart" which if you consider the Tri, Everest, RftT, TOT13K - he has a point.

He made mention of consolidation - which my guess is a fall 1/2 marathon, 10K and Everest 5k would be the same weekend - similar to Marathon weekend or Princess weekend.

I have also heard the TOT may be moved to the spring - not eliminated.

Congrats to everyone that has run or is training for the endurance series!

Congrats on running the Chicago race!

Everest has been moved to June 12 for 2010, but Disney could announce a new 5K race event for October of next year. The date change for Expedition: Everest challenge was announced during this year's Everest run. Boy is that going to be hot! The sun doesn't set until 9 pm in June!

I hope your rumor is correct and they keep the Tower of Terror run around.

Other upcoming Endurance Series events are Disney’s Race for the Taste 10K (Oct. 11, 2009), the Tower of Terror 13K (Oct. 24, 2009), the Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon (Jan. 7-10, 2010), ESPN the Weekend 5k (Feb. 27, 2010) and Disney’s Princess Half Marathon (March 7, 2010).

Hope this helps.

I can see people dressing up in in costumes and running the Mickey's Halloween Family Fun 5K.

More people than usually do for these races, I mean. :lookaroun

Interesting that they are turning this into a weekend event. Sounds like 5k fri, and half on saturday? Or Sat/Sun? Having a Halloween race at the beginning of Oct seems a little wrong, but not worse than having a Halloween party in September.

In case any one was curious

So Thursday night, my dad and I flew down to Florida for the last ever Tower of Terror 13k. Luckily, our flight had Direct TV so I was able to watch The Office (best episode in years), 30 Rock, and the majority of the Yankee game. Nothing like people hooting and hollering on an airplane… too bad they lost. We arrived around 1:30 and hit the sack.

Got up early Friday, and after doing some mathematics that lead to an interestingly unexpected purchase, we headed to Epcot where the Food and Wine festival was in full swing. Had some eats, rode a few rides, grabbed a beer, then headed off to Magic Kingdom for a Halloween Party. The party was from 4pm-12am and the park was closed to the general public. No lines for rides, got a ton of free candy, and saw the Headless Horseman barrel down Main Street. Also of note, the new Hall of Presidents is excellent and pretty moving; worth seeing if you’re an American History nut.

Saturday night was the Tower of Terror 13k and 5k (which is what we ran). They did an awesome job with the race, which was also a murder mystery with clues throughout the run. I did very well in the run, and probably could have come in at a faster time if not for the humidity, which was brutal. After the race, Disney Hollywood Studios was closed for the runners, so again we enjoyed a night of beer and no lines for rides. If you wanted to know, beer and Toy Story Mania go well together. Got to bed around 3am, pretty much exhausted.

Sunday we enjoyed a day of park hopping. Had an 8 o’clock flight, but no Direct TV. However we were entertained by a nervous pilot who kept warning us of this brutal turbulance that we were going to encounter any minute… it never happened. Jim and I got home in time to see the end of the Yankee game, so the weekend ended quite wonderfully.

If you want to check out pics from the weekend click here. I’m still waiting on ASI Photos to e-mail me the in-race pictures…
