Disney does it again

My daughter has a habit of sending me D-cards from disney.com.

She hasn't sent me one in a couple of weeks so I asked her why and she said "they changed the site." I asked her what she meant and she showed me the new site. What used to be free, you now have to sign up for and pay $13.95/year to do.

I know this might be petty, but to an 8 year old and the dad that used to get her special messages, it means alot.

As I read the different threads on this site, I'm really starting to understand what all of the "Eisner" bashing is all about. Can they be losing that much money that they have to charge a child to send a little happiness?

I teach middle school, and everyday I either wear a Disney shirt or one of my pins along with my id holder. the next time I get teased by the kids or the other "guys" I may not be so quick to defend something I thought was so good. Or........

Maybe I'll charge Disney for the support!

Wow that is aweful. I hope Eisner (or one of his Orcs) read posts from sites like WDWMAGIC and see how it really affects the truest Disney fans. Hang in there GoofyFan. One day the citizens of the Magic Kingdom will be rid of the evil tyrant ruler.

Eisner doesn't have orcs, he has things slimier and worse- lawyers and accountants.Of course, they're just slimy orcs anyway, that Eisner got from Bill"Beezelbub"Gates.

That's why I believe they'll never be free web-cam sites at Disney in the future...it's great PR, but there's no hard cash return to show on the books. I know they've got people to pay and bills to take care of, but they keep losing the edge that has kept them at the head of the pack for so long.

That just sickens me.

And I can picture how it went. Some doltish beancounter at Disney probably reviewed some numbers on how much traffic the various disney sites recieve and mistakenly figured they could "capture" some profit from these people who were using a *gasp* free card mailing service.

The beancounter is probably in his 60's with no clue of how people expect things on the internet. He probably has no idea that millions of web sites offer this same kind of service for free everyday...

Makes me sick. The Disney co. needs a turnaround, it needs to get rid of all the rotting wood and slimy things that live beneath it and refresh, invigor and reignite itself with new blood in the higher management. Young people need to be placed in the high positions, preferably young people with good business sense AND knowledge of how the current culture works. This isn't the 70's 80's or even the 90's anymore.

Disney is making too many of these types of mistakes lately which truly makes me feel that major sections of the company are just out of touch with current culture.

And you know what? Disney needs to just STOP trying to finance ABC and other failing enterprises by shuffling money from well loved and successful endeavors while hoping and praying (preying?) that by some miracle and Disney magic (Eisner lost the magic long ago-- it isn't coming back to him) that some super line up of hit shows or wonder products will make them profitable again.

If I were CEO, the first thing I would do is dump ABC. Then I would make sure that the things that people LOVE about the Disney company were the things that received the most of my attention. THEN other endeavors would be colored by the love of the company in the eyes of the customer, turning nearly everything into gold.

Disney management is currently riding the momentum of the love people have felt for the company in the past, and the way they are doing it is much like spending a principal investment. Sure you get a lot of money right away, but in the long run, you destroy the very thing that was paying the bills in the first place and wind up with nothing -- other than the experience of having a great time "spending the kids inheritance".

Just do a search of past Eisner-related posts, 'cos I have nothing to add to the contempt I voiced in them. It's equally applicable to this this post.

My 9 y/o daughter always send these to me, too. I had wondered why they stopped. (she just told me that they started charging). Now she sends me "Barbie Wish Lists"...like we need more of that.

LOL!!!!!

I almost didn't recognize him if it weren't for his tie. Nice one! I do not know how he fits his head up there with all his rear-kissing Orcs constantly fighting for "position".

Now that's what I call "upper management".

(Thanks for the pic Tramp)

What I love about Roy's cause is that he's open to so much.

Take a look through his site. He values everything we do: classic characters, classic attractions -- the "little" things - benefits, experiences - that are fading away. Customers. Cast Members. Stock holders.

Heck, I'm sure if he was "back on board," and you asked him for a Horizons DVD, he'd go straight to merchandise and request it be made.

That's a Disney for you.

Seriously, does anybody care what we all think in the corporation? Is Eisner really under any kind of microscope or are we all these little people will little power? What's the odds he will be gone anytime soon?

No, Eisner doesn't care. But let's not say he won't get out -- he can!

Step 1 is to like Disney. Step 2 is to believe in it. Half of Disney is believing in your dreams, right?

Well, this is our chance to live the Disney spirit. And, how nicely, saving Disney with it.

Wish upon a star...and take some action! :)

now that the usa has caught saddam do u not think they should now put all there money into getting this bloke, do u think he will be hiding down a hole. If eniser was to get his way he would change the name of disney world to ensier world and the partners statue would be of him and a load of money nxt to him.

Ha! I am sure Eisner is hiding... in a multi-million dollar mansion that dwarfs Saddams'.

LISTEN EVERYONE (Lord of the Rings is inspiring me here)... we must be patient! The return of the true King is the only thing that can de-throne this evil from the pits of Mordor!

"Lord of the Parks: RETURN OF THE REAL KING, Roy Disney"

Roy is gathering his army and soon we will march on the gates of the Magic Kingdom! (Ok, who is short enough to be a hobbit?)
