My husband, his parents, my parents and I will all be visiting Disney together for Christmas this year. I am looking for any tips/suggestions for what to do and see. Also wondering if there are special things that go on at magic kingdom and animal kingdom christmas day. Also which park would be best to visit on the 25th AK or MK (these are the two we are planning on visiting)? :xmas:

I just hope you don't plan on sleeping. You will need to be at parks well before they open. The lines will be incredibly long so make sure to go straight towards your top attractions or else you will get no where near them later in the day. My cousin was there last year and said she'd never do it again. She said she rarely saw lines for anything under an hour and that included Small World. As long as your prepared for the crowds though you'll be ok.

Oh and I personally would go to AK on Christmas Day just to avoid the mass crowds.

Are these the only two parks you plan on visiting your whole trip or just on the 25th?

Epcot handles crowds better! The lines may probably be as long at headliner attractions but Epcot is bigger and has bigger walkways so it doesn't feel as crowded!

well I am aware of the crowds this will be my 12th visit to Disney, my parents 13th and my husbands 2nd so we are aware of the lines and craziness involved- my husband and I didn't even make it only a few hours at magic kingdom when we were there last year for our honeymoon; However my mother in-law hasn't been since 1972 and my father in-law never so they are all about magic kingdom. We don't have enough time to do more than 2 parks because there are other things we want to do and see; plus we are on a budget. I think Epcot would be better as well seeing that there are tons of things to do that are not waiting in line for rides but the trouble is my in-laws have their hearts set on magic kingdom, my husband has his on animal kingdom and my parents just went to Epcot a month ago- the troubles of traveling with groups you can't please everyone.

The thing is my mother-in-law has her mind set that she is going to magic kingdom on christmas day....which i think is insane....how do i convince her that we should go to animal kingdom that day?

Follow her around all day, while pressed up against her, and breathing down her neck! If she get annoyed, tell her to get use to it b/c that's what MK will be like on Christmas Day!:animwink:

I have spent the last 2 Christmases in Disney. Both years we went to Epcot on Christmas Day and will be doing so again this year. You could not pay me to go to the Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day. :dazzle: In '07 we had a MK view room at the Polynesian that was right next to the TTC. On Christmas morning, the line for the Ferry was a mass of humanity at 7:15 a.m. People as far as the eye could see. And that was just for the ferry; nevermind the monorail! MK will open at 7 a.m. for resort guests and 8 a.m. for the general public on Christmas Day, so if she insists on going there, get there early. :xmas:

We visited the world last Christmas and decided to go to MK on Christmas Day.

Although it was definitely crowded, we were able to do everything we set out to do that day. We rode Splash twice without a FP and once more using a FP. We also were able to ride BTMRR, SM, HM, PotC and even the Jungle Cruise.

We don't have small children so we were able to skip basically all of Fantasyland (except MP and IASW).

We saw the parades and closed the day with Wishes (my avatar's picture was taken that night).

So, although the park will be definitely crowded, I believe that MK is the best park to be in and experience the true spirit of Christmas. So I say, go for it and enjoy it regardless of the crowds.:xmas:

Are you staying on site? Bypassing TTC will help getting into the park on Christmas Day. I do understand their desire, If I hadn't been since 1972 and my spouse had never been, I'd want to go to MK, too. To this day there are those who think the MK IS WDW.

You must get there EARLY!, as everyone has mentioned. You must LOWER expectations about what you will accomplish on that day. But yes, go and enjoy. Just walking around MK is always wonderful. And if you have to do things like ride WDW railroad and Liberty Square Riverboat and see COP and other (lesser) attractions just to be able to DO something, then do those things and think on how you would like to come back sometime when it's not so crowded!

And may the Lord have mercy on your souls ! :) And your soles. :) :)

I have a "Grand Gathering" WDW Christmas Vacation planned the same time. Just got our rese booked yesterday.

We are a party of 9, 5 adults, 4 pre-teen/teens.
Checking in 12/22, checking out 12/27 w/ 5 day Park Hopper

We are planning to be at MK on Christmas Day. Even though there will be crowds, we are use to that. Our yearly trip is usually over Thanksgiving week, which has become increasingly more crowded each year.

BUT, just the sheer fact that we will all be together, in the place we love most to travel to, with all of it's MAGIC and special memories...THAT will make coping with any "hassels" ok. And did I mention ..."WE WILL BE IN THE MAGIC KINGDOM ON CHRISTMAS DAY!!!!!"...I mean come on...

Magic Kingdon ..... Christmas Day ..... Enough Said!:xmas:

Get to your chosen park as soon after opening as possible and head straight for your favourite attraction (s) - use Fast Pass wisely. Soarin' had a 4 hour stand-by wait time from mid-day this last New Years Eve

rob_and_kate - WDW is open 365 days each year (except leap years :D)
