Disney Cruises through Costco

I have to ask just b/c a good friend of mine is considering booking one...has anyone done this? I mean, I know you can book all kinds of Disney vacations through Costco travel, but I'm wondering if there are any advantages or disadvantages. The prices appear to be identical to DCL...they just throw in a Costco cash card for incentive. Any thoughts?

I just checked out BJ's because you got me interested...it's pretty much the same deal DCL and Costco offer, and a cash card as well...if they had my dates available I'd probably cancel my initial reservation made through DCL and go through them for the $200 but that's just cause I can spend hundreds and hundreds at BJ's (esp. when ours sells bulk wine).

It's actually quite common to book thru Costco. If they have good onboard credits, why not? I would! I get stacked onboard credits now by using my onboard bookings plus the thank you from KK. On our recent cruise we had $350. Not too shabby!

@sweetpee_1993 I have a question for you. In your experience, if you want to book another cruise, is it better to book through Tammy and get the onboard credits, or book on the ship to get their incentives?

Book onboard and tell them you want it assigned to Tammy/Kingdom Konsultants. They will do that. Then, you get the killer service from your TA when you get home, you get the onboard booking incentives including the onboard credits, AND all the other perks that come from booking with KK!

Really? WOW. I really don't need a TA, but if it helps her get some credit and I can extra on board credit, that is a plus. BTW, what are the bennies of being with KK?

FYI - you get very little service, even less than what a AAA travel agency would give you - at least that is what I have heard.

If you just want their card, and don't care about the service, by all means, book with them.

That was my big concern. He has very high service expectations and really should be using an agent (IMO) just due to some of his disability issues. I was going to recommend KK if he's truly interested.

We booked through Costco and had EXCELLENT customer service. We don't sail until next May, but when we called to book the Costco agent took lots of time to explain everything she could (it's our first cruise). We received our confirmation packet via email while DH was still on the phone with her and she made sure that he didn't have any questions about it before they hung up. She was able to answer all of the questions we had regarding cancellation policy, when final payment is due, when we can book our excursions, travel insurance, etc. She also explained that Disney does not allow anyone to discount their cruises so that is why we will receive a Costco cash card instead of getting a discount on the actual cruise.

Yep. I do it every trip. Tammy has handled every one of my cruise reservations. On our recent Fantasy voyage we had $350 in onboard credits waiting for us. ;)
So even though I booked already through DCL, I can call up DCL and be like, "Oh yeah, I forgot...put Kingdom Konsultants down as my TA (Even though like @EOD K9, I don't need a TA)" then I get credits or do I actually have to call the Kingdom Konsultants and arrange something?

"You can transfer your reservation to a travel agent as long as the voyage fare portion of your cruise has not been paid and the request is received within 30 days of your reservation being created." You should contact KK too.

Contact KK. There's a form you have to sign that reassigns ownership of your reservation from Disney Travel Company to Kindgom Konsultants.

Interestingly enough they are in the town next to the one I grew up in...I will e-mail them since I made my reservation a week ago and see what they say...I've never used a TA before. I don't need to pay them? They'll really just do it for the credits they get?

They are paid commission by DCL - that is where the Onboard Credit money comes from and the Costco money - they are kicking back some of their commission to you.
