Saw this article online and found it to be hilarious, although not good PR for Disney. I guess this Castmember either didnt turn in or stole this passenger's iPhone, and then took various pictures around the ship with it. Through a PhotoStream app, she started getting the photos as well, and shared them in a Facebook photo album. Read the captions after you read the article, its a very good laugh.

OK..please explain how she knew that the pictures were taken on her phone. And how she came across said pictures.

Did I just miss that completely?

They were sent automatically to her Cloud account I believe.....

I think that she had an app on the phone that automatically uploads pictures she takes to a website. Now, why they took this long to get uploaded I do not know.

Isn't there an app for locating your iPhone/iPad/MacBook??? Like a GPS?

I'm certain the CM lost their job over something like this. Makes me think about having left our iPhones laying on our nightstands in the open on our cruise (we used the alarms). We also left our old 80g iPod video (2nd gen) on the clock/dock the entire cruise. We liked having some music when getting dressed, etc.

I know there are apps like that for android and it is fairly safe to assume that you can also get them for an iphone. I am not sure in regards to a laptop as many do not have a GPS. I am sure there would be a way to track one down if they hit some public hot spots but that would be rather hit or miss.

I would not worry too much about leaving your phone out. For all we know she left her phone at one of the bars on board and Nelson just commandeered it. That still does not make it right, it should have been turned into lost and found, but we do not know if this guy actually "stole" this phone.

It's not an app, it's one of the built in features of iCloud. When you take photos they are automatically sent to the iCloud account and then pushed to all your devices (Home computer, iPad etc.). Once the photos were taken they would then begin to appear on her home computer.

"commandeering" something that isn't yours is stealing. There are only two possibilities he either stole it or he bought or obtained it from someone who stole it.

Either way it's nice to see all these new features making it more and more easy to catch thieves. Hopefully stories like this will make people think twice before stealing an iPhone.

Don't be too certain. Those of us who have managed in a union environment know that isn't certain. I have already heard one defence being floated for him. It's that's he didn't steal it somebody else did and sold it to him. The idea being that he didn't know it was stolen.

There will be other defenses floated, his representatives will pose a few. That's why he's currently on administrative leave pending the investigation. The investigation, likely including appropriate authorities, is going to have to rule out that and any other defence floated before he possibly loses his job. Got to be found guilty beyond reasonable doubt first and his lawyers, likely union provided, will make sure that happens. And, depending on the investigation results he may not even lose his job then just get some form of progressive discipline. Believe me i've seen that happen in similar cases.

This has a long way to go yet as obvious at it may seem at first.

Here is a follow up story. To sum up Disney got wind of the situation, phone is found and will be returned, Nelson on administrative leave pending an investigation.

I figured Disney took over the situation a little bit ago. I saw an article mentioning the same story, followed links, and when directed to FB I wasn't asked for a login. Instead, it said the content wasn't available. Looks like Disney has embarked on their damage control journey.

I won't even go into what I think of unions in the US in this day & age. I've not managed in a union environment but I know if a company wants you out bad enough it's only a matter of time before they find the right reason to make it happen. We could start a pool as to how long the Disney folks take to get their ducks in a row so they get the end they want to see. Monday is a holiday. I'll go with Tuesday.

My guess is that it took a while to push the picture because the phone would only do so when it was connected to a network.

Cell at sea, or whatever they call it, does not work in the common areas, only in the staterooms and costs an arm and a leg.

So if the guy who "acquired" the phone did not have access to the staterooms (and from the pictures, he does not seem to be a stateroom attendent) then the only place he was connecting to the network would be in one of the internet cafes (if he paid for it) or if he ran across a open wireless network when ashore.

The same thing would also make using the "find my phone" feature difficult to use.

To her credit, her captions on the pictures never say "Nelson stole my phone", she always says that it's a picture that "Nelson took with my stolen phone". It's not totally unreasonable to think that somebody else stole it and removed the personal information before selling it to Nelson.

It does seem like it would have to be a crew member who stole it, though. Which means that Nelson better be able to finger the person who sold it to him.

Not sure if there is an app, but we have installed Lo-Jack on the laptops (taken on trips & to college) so if it is stolen/lost it can be found.

Photostream will post to facebook from the i-phone when turned on (my teenager does that  ).

I was just reading through her comments under the photos...funny

I'm sure Nelson was shocked to find out his photos are all over somebody else's facebook :hammer:
