Disney Couture Warning?

Hi everyone,

I was looking thru disneyshopping.com at the Disney Couture line and found this warning on some of the products:
WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm.

I did find a website that states there is no significant risk unless you are exposed to it for 70 yrs, but I did notice their new Disney Couture jewelery did not have this warning. Their new stuff is mostly found on the 1st page out of the 3 pages. This is the website w/ the warning information:

Anyway, i just wanted to know if this was normal or if anyone has any thoughts on this? It's my first time seeing it and I don't remember this warning being there before on their website. Any thoughts?

I had seen that too on the Mickey Rhinestone Belt, WHICH I REALLY WANT. Anyways. I doubt it would make an effect but I can't wait to hear comments too...But I don't know :shrug: Sorry.:(

As a general rule, this means there could be traces of lead or other items which could (in large quantities) cause ill health effects.

You'll see this warning on a LOT of pdifferent household products, including a lot of items with electrical wiring due to soldering materials. Odds are, some parts of the jewelry were soldered on, and that's why the warning's there.

Higher quality crystal uses lead in the glass, which gives it more sparkle. Unless you plan on eating your belt you should be fine. ;)

There is a problem with keeping liquids in lead decanters, so most of the new ones have a warning not to store anything in them. Wineglasses, etc are fine because the liquid doesn't stay in them long enough to for the lead to get into it. Again, as long as you wash your glasses between uses, you should be fine.

The same warning shows up on Christmas lights, etc. Again, I don't plan on eating them.

Edited to add:

I suspose if you wore the bracelet every day for the next 70 years, you could be at risk. Just take it off once in a while. I would be concerned if I were MAKING the product.

I've seen that warning before in Disney catalogs. I remember a few years ago my sister showed me a play tent w/tunnels in a Disney catalog that she wanted to get my children. When I saw the warning, I said "No, thanks". So that would be different than the jewelry.

I would be surprised if the issue was lead, does California have different standards than the federal government?

If 70 years isn't safe, what is? 60? 50? 1?

interestingly...

My model trains have the exact same warning on the side of the box. Apparently the lead used in the solder can be dangerous (duh?). We joke that we can't eat the trains because they'd give us cancer.

All I can say is "wow..."

I remember working at Mervyn's in CA (kind of like Kohls) and we sold plates, silverware and such and we required to put out signs explaining that the plates could possibly have lead. I was always amazed when people bought them!

Actually for Christmas lights, there warning isn't due to the solder but the plastic wire insulation, which contains some trace amount of lead. Many extension cords have this warning too. I have seen warnings to wash your hands after handling the wires. It really isn't a big deal unless you lick you hands after handling!

Its a California thing. Another example of our governments going overboard in an area that really has no direct impact on the majority of citizens daily lives.

...and try and not wear it for 70 yrs...
