News Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Muppets is a bad fit for a coaster. Monsters is a bad fit for a land and a stage show. Neither plan plays to the properties’ strengths.

But none of that matters much, since the coaster (and Villains Land, and a lot of other announced projects) will be “delayed indefinitely” in late 2025 and 2026 by rising construction material costs, a widespread labor shortage, and new management at the top of Disney.

The labor shortage is likely going to delay a lot of projects. Since this is a retheme though it shouldn't be impacted as much as brand new projects, hopefully.

As someone who was geniunely worried that Steven Tyler would die before they rethemed the coaster, AND a massive Electric Mayhem fan.... i love this change. Sad about MV3D, but keeping the Muppets alive in the parks is important enough. Now... I'm also a big fan of the Villains Show idea, but can't seem to understand why they don't just expand that to be some sort of Muppet Show & create a Muppet area....and put the Villains Tonight show as a 2nd (or more possibly THIRD) experience in the MK upcoming land.

Not the worst news, but as always with Disney....highly questionable.

I think Sunset Boulevard would be a great place to renovate after the Villains Land is done!

God I hope not. It and Echo Lake are the only old studios areas left now, other than the rotting husk of the Animation Courtyard. They're both perfect and don't need touched (other than Beauty and the Beast, I guess)

How Disney heard the wrath of many who took offense when Tiana replaced Splash Mountain. I venture to guess not many will take offense of Kermit and his friends replacing Aerosmith.

Henson's career goal, not just with Muppets but his overall work, was to have puppetry be seen as a respected artform. He dedicated his life to have puppetry accepted by all audiences, including adults, and make it an engaging medium for them. His passion projects were even in that realm. While Muppets has largely been all-ages, he made a concentrated effort to gain respect of adult viewers and have a dedicated adult audience. Allowing at times for Muppets to be incorporated into entertainment geared for older audiences, like this, captures the respect that he wanted for his medium. Same as the Incredibles coaster, like what was rumored for RnRC at one point. Incredibles had a goal to gain adults respect as well and Disney has given it that grace as well. No one is complaining 5 year olds can't go on Incredicoaster even if Incredibles is also popular with 5 year olds.

I think he'd be more upset by people thinking his characters can only be for the "6ish crowd" then losing Muppetvision, and if he was still with us he would have revamped it by now.

No, that is a complaint that has been pointed out. Tiana and Incredicoaster are worse than this, but it is a legit concern.

Not to be overly negative but I imagine this will a low-key/low $$$ Muppets overlay of RnRC that they can remove in 2/3 years with some significant modern IP...

That gives them time and less squawking over the removal of Muppetvision

I think it'll be a cheap bare bones retheme but I don't think it'll get removed that fast. I would sooner wager they remove RnRC entirely before they retheme it a third time

Oswald is a very dated property, yes. What I like about him is that he was lost, and then found, and is back in the house of Disney where he was born.

It’s clear they’re giving the attraction an exciting Muppets re-theme to appease disappointed fans, but the concept of a Muppets Rock 'n' Roller Coaster feels very much like something Michael Eisner would have proposed—random and almost very outlandish way to use an IP, like a scrapped idea that never quite made it. Interesting to see what would come out of it

I could see having Statler and Waldorf looming over the launch making quips before Dr. Teeth's famous "OHHHH YEAHHHHH!!!!!" as we launch. Also, there's an opportunity for this to make for the best "Please Stand By" moment if there's a delay as they can add further insult to injury.

... Dream ending of this ride- we meet an animatronic Orson Wells who offers us a standard "Rich and Famous" contract.
