DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

I think this ride will stay largely the same, for good and bad. I can see some Muppet props added to the queue, a new preshow, and then new items in the gift shop. But I think the ride itself, the vehicles, and the props you go flying by will largely remain as is.

I think the variety will come from the new musical acts they team up with. Maybe they rotate it seasonally/yearly/quarterly (you know Disney is not great with making changes), but in theory it would not be too difficult to make a preshow that focuses on the muppets and then maybe a separate place where you find out who they are touring with. Like one room is the Muppets preshow and the next room has information about the artist you are going to hear. Maybe they tap into some of the artists you see at eat to the beat or who they are known to have worked with in the past.

well… yes and no.

Tianas is a completely different theme, name, and experience. It’s just the physical ride system is the same. Just like maelstrom and frozen.

That’s my point - this will still be called “rock n rollercoaster” - it’s the same ride title - which tells me it will be virtually the same experience.
It's also downgraded as a mountain from the MK Mountain range..

Wait…. Will piston peak be made of salt? Can we have a MK salt mound range!?

This was from Disney when the ride change was announced:

"The Muppets will be taking over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music's biggest stars for a rockin' music festival!"
Interesting. we shall see what that means!

Nope it would be a "Natural" rock formation...

And I still find it interesting that the Piston Peak area is from the "World of Cars" Aka Planes Fire & Rescue..Fun Fact: That one of the characters of The film was voiced by the first host of the original Test Track John Michael Higgins.

Before this thread gets derailed by Cars and MK, we already have had a Rock 'n' Rollercoaster retheme to compare this to, the one at Walt Disney Studios Park at DLP closed in 2019, reopened in 2022 as Avengers Assemble Flight Force with a new facade, queue/pre-show with Iron Man animatronic, new ride vehicles and projections during the ride, but the ride track stayed the same. Given the Muppets overlay is supposed to open within a year of Aerosmith closing, I don't think we can see much changing on-ride itself, all the changes will likely be in the queue and pre-show and onboard audio

During my visit they were just rushing you through and not using the pre-show - which was disappointing - I specifically did standby and not single rider because I wanted to see the pre show.

They did a good job overall - but as you said that was a total retheme where this is just a “takeover” - we will see what that means.

I can't imagine they'll change things out seasonally or even yearly with the songs. That just seems like more licensing for them to work with and work they don't care to do.

Have they ever reskinned a ride and had more animatronics in the reskinned version? At least, are there any examples of that happening recently?

Not counting stuff that is not a ride being replaced by a ride.

I can understand the stomach-in-mouth feelings on hills, like a humpback bridge, the "tickle-tummy" feeling. It's an acquired taste! I think I don't particularly like it myself though I'm a big fan of airtime, I think it just depends on the actual shape and speed as to the sensation it actually gives you. I tend to get it during the backwards helix on Expedition Everset, high-acceleration launches, and also the backwards vertical loop on boomerangs as you come down from the top of the loop backwards. But it wouldn't stop me from riding a good coaster. Airtime parabolic hills, big drops, vertical drops etc, don't really give me that feeling and just enjoy the floaty weightlessness for what it is.

Rock 'n Roller Coaster in particular I don't think has any of those sorts of moments in the inversions. There's a small airtime hill towards the end, as you leapfrog over the launch track, and of course the launch itself, but the inversions themselves are constant high G and I don't think give you that rapid changing weight sensation that gives you the stomach-in-mouth feeling. But that's just the way I experience it. It's quite aggressive and rough so I can totally understand why people wouldn't like it on those terms!

I appreciate the detailed breakdown. When I tell people I'm afraid of thrill rides they usually do the same thing and try to explain why it might be good to try, then normally I tell them I'm afraid of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and they admit I shouldn't try whatever ride we're discussing. Haha! Honestly it's kind of an irrational fear at this point.
