I'm equally confused by the worship those antique bits of felt and foam rubber still get from some people. The Muppets were a novelty act that hit it big in the 1970's, then faded quickly. If Eisner hadn't bought them, they'd be in the dustbin of history. Equally puzzling is the notion that Disney is underutilizing them even though they've been given two movies and many attempts at success on TV, which have all failed. And then Disney gets the blame for it - the fans say it doesn't "get" the Muppets, blah blah blah, even though all Disney does is pay the bills; the people behind the puppets create the material that keeps flopping. All in all, the Muppets are a no-win property for Disney; it ought to cut the puppets loose at this point. And I'm not the only one who thinks so:

It’s time we let The Muppets die off

This is the truth. In 1989 when this opened there were Muppets theatrical movies and the TV Show Muppet Babies was big. There are lots of muppet fans but despite spending money to modernize them, they seem to just be a nostalgia property at best.

It does seem to me that Muppets is being shoved into RnRc to solve 2 problems (Aerosmith name and muppets needing to remain)

I don’t really have a view on the muppets as it isn’t my thing so not sure where would Have been better but I imagine moving the whole show complete to a somewhere would have pleased those fans.
maybe bring back the main street theatre and stick it there?

I actually think they’ll have several artists involved in the pre show so why not throw Weezer in there and have Miss Piggy throw a little shade at Pat (referencing the old music video).

I could see the premise being covers of other musicians songs, so they could do Buddy Holly.

I really hope Weezer is involved tbh.
I would be kind of surprised if Weezer is not referenced at least somewhere in the queue given the past collaboration and the likelihood of some overlap between Weezer fans and those who have nostalgic feelings for The Muppets.

If they're dropping random songs onto the ride, Cosmic Rewind style, then Buddy Holly also seems like as good a song as any to include.

A Goofy Movie overlay where we’re rushing to get Max to the Powerline concert with I2I blasting was too obvious of an answer, huh

Shoehorning Muppets into a thrill ride in fear of a Josh Gad tweet is so short sided. Just move Muppetvision to the Mickey Shorts theater and be done with that. And give RNR proper treatment.

The ride will still be popular because it’s one of the only truly thrilling coasters, but it won’t be nearly as satisfying as it could be

I'm so unhappy about this and have now very little reason to really go to DHS. I don't ride coasters. I'm now left with Star Tours, those new Star Wars things which aren't worth the wait, that Toy Story ride and what replaced the Great Movie ride (which doesn't hold a candle to that and isn't worth the wait times either) So now what? I'm perplexed as to why they would close an attraction that is good for ALL ages in a park that has few of those. The only acceptable solution is the creation of a Muppet mini land there and move the movie there. They should've used the other location for Monsters. If we could get them to save ToT, any chance public outcry could get them to reverse this decision?
There will still be a show where MuppetVision is currently. It will just be themed to Monsters instead of Muppets.

They’re not permanently closing an attraction that’s good for all ages, they’re just retheming it.

I really don’t see how A Goofy Movie is a better fit for a thrill ride than the Muppets. They both feature in-universe musicians with upbeat rock/pop music. They both feature zany protagonists who can make for a fun preshow.

I’d argue that “A Goofy Coaster” would be even more alienating than a Muppet one. Can you imagine telling your kid that they aren’t tall enough to ride the Goofy ride?

A Goofy Movie is very popular with the millennial demographic that actually goes on this ride. A hammed up 90s vibe w/ associated merch would sell, and the narrative urgency of needing to make it to the concert quickly is consistent with the movie and something we can relive. A Goofy Movie is not Mickey & Pals — it’s is very different

Muppets appeals to…baby boomers?

I don’t mind telling my kid he can’t ride right now because it goes upside down 3 times. They’ll be fine

I'm not sure making the already dated coaster even more dated would be the answer. The Muppets and A Goofy Movie are frankly equally irrelevant in terms of general appeal, but the Muppets aren't stuck in the 90's.

I truly think the thinking here is as simple as "It's a coaster. Everyone will ride it anyway. Just throw the complainers a bone."

To which we will all still complain.

I will say that The Muppets have a larger appeal than A Goofy Movie, particularly to international guests. From the UK and I only discovered it once I got Disney+ because it was never available here except on DVD if you went looking for it. Muppets has multiple TV Shows and movies, including Muppet Christmas Carol becoming an iconic Christmas movie

Muppets makes a ton of sense if you think about it if the goal is to get the most popular songs on the ride so people keep wanting to come back. Using the muppets let's them constantly add the most popular songs to keep people wanting to go. Basically, an easy way to be able to refresh the ride without needing a total retheme. It makes even more sense if the goal is to bring MV3D and create a little miniland.
