My two hopes for this:
  1. PLEASE retain the thematic fit of the entrance archway, or at least don’t extend wacky/colorful elements further into Sunset Boulevard. The approach to Tower of Terror is a major part of its experience—and thus integral to one the best experiences in the Disney pantheon. Please don’t mess that up.
  2. Perhaps the semi-retheme will give them the opportunity to change the “ignore the track and pretend this is a car + pretend those cartoon flats are something else” to something more believable and thus truly immersive.

Not from any specific thread or even from WDWMagic specifically, but these things have been discussed by the online fan community for literally over two decades.

Most people, including kids, wouldn't care. But instead, with this move, Disney is generating more resentment. Not even its promise that it's going to preserve some of the stuff from the theater and place it - where? in its own mausoleum near the Haunted Mansion? Say! Maybe there'll be a Kermit the Frog headstone near Mr. Toad! Synergy! - is enough. This is a really lame choice and really bad PR move. And I fail to see how it's going to help park attendance or make WDW worth all the ridiculous price hikes. Fail, Iger. You've failed again. All hail Epic Universe!

This is/was an incredibly dumb move. It takes an attraction with relatively good appeal across multiple demographics and shoe horns in a kid friendly theme with an IP that isn’t even that popular with kids today. Make no mistake, I’m not a muppet fan, but I’d have supported them getting a different attraction elsewhere. This is just very poor vision from TWDC.

Part of me wonders if this won’t be short lived, or altogether scrapped and quietly not mentioned further in a year or two.

The biggest thing about RNR is that ride is in desperate need of a retracking/long term refurb. Can’t keep putting band aids on it. I hope that they can take some extra time and make the ride feel like a new experience.

Kermit won't attract a crowd like Steven Tyler. We were in the gift shop in 2012 at the ride exit and many fellow guests lined up the long hallway to exit into the courtyard. Cast advised that Tyler and his young lady friend would exit soon after riding and enter the gift shop which they both did and we saw them look at some shirts and leave, smiling throughout to the cheering crowd.
