It will be very interesting when Tokyos Frozen area debuts. No doubt the defense and excuses by those who are in favor of what is happening at WDW will not change but at least there will be a much higher standard to actually show what we are trying to explain as to what we could/should have gotten for Orlando.
but..but..but..disney is a business! :hilarious:

Personally, I think that it is a good idea to bring the Princesses, Princes, Main Characters of the animated Disney movies to EPCOT. Not completely overlaying the whole country, but at least show their story. When I was a child I wanted to go and see every character they had out doing a meet and greats and I think it would be awesome if they were in a type of setting from their homeland like it's displayed in the movie that they are in. I mean even today as my 25 year old self I would love to go and check out Snow White's cottage in Germany or the Emperor's palace in China and see Mulan or the Bank's house from Mary Poppins and Darling's house from Peter Pan in the United Kingdom. I mean it has worked great with Nemo over at the Living Seas, I mean I wanted to go there just to see the Nemo stuff but ended up learning more while I was there. It would bring the kids to EPOCT to see their favorite characters and it would bring the adults that grew up with these characters who want to embrace themselves in their world. Just my opinion...

Welcome to WDWMagic. I hope you have a good time here.

If you try to stay out of arguments, you'll be fine. There are some people who complain about everything, and some people who gush about everything. Some people who hate the idea of Frozen in Norway, and some that disagree and try to bicker to support their opinion

If someone disagrees with you, just remember that this is a discussion board, and talk about the subject of a thread is exactly what that means.

One final note, threads get off topic. A lot. If the title says "Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey icon at the Studios?" and people are talking about a castle cake, just grin and bear it.

Happy browsing!

First off, welcome to the forums! Second, you should seriously heed @Wikkler 's advice as it is a great guideline to follow and will definitely make your experience here more enjoyable. That being said...

World Showcase allows a person or family to sample the food, drink, language, wares, history and culture of the countries represented within it. Its a celebration of the global community. The absence of Disney films and characters are exactly what give it a distinction from a Disney movie based park such as Magic Kingdom where its a celebration of fantasy. The stark contrasts between the two are the attributes that allow each park to have such an extreme level of perceptibility.

The fact that the countries represented have unique architecture and provide excellent backdrops should not make them the preferred location for a character to take photos with guests. Their very design was intended to be realistic, the exact opposite of fantasy. The fact that people want more fantasy and characters from Disney movies is proof that Magic Kingdom works excellent for providing that. Flooding that fantasy into Epcot simply because the real estate is there is nothing short of lazy and a lack of desire to spend the money to do it the right way, in the proper area.

What you describe in your post about meeting characters in an environment like their homeland is exactly what Fantasyland has done for years and continues to do. The lack of money, extra space, or desire to act quickly should not over ride the concept of having two distinctly identifiable theme parks with separate features which create their very own identity which in turn serves to enhance one another by having individuality and unique qualities. I will never understand the 'it will bring more kids to Epcot' idea. Kids will go to Epcot regardless. Especially first time visitors who have no idea what it has in store. If kids hate Epcot so much, why do I never see kids kicking and screaming their way through the park? I see kids crowded around Kidcot stations and playing the Agent P game. I see kids in boring Future World running around experiencing the offerings. I see families enjoying themselves....without the aide of movies and characters all around them.

I'm trying to figure out when this happened. Was it when the rainbow characters debuted? Or did it coincide with Epcot 94?

Didnt mean to imply that it has happened. It was meant more in line with the post I was replying to saying that it would be nice to see:
Snow White's cottage in Germany or the Emperor's palace in China and see Mulan or the Bank's house from Mary Poppins and Darling's house from Peter Pan in the United Kingdom.

I knew I should have added a disclaimer that my post was in no way written with a, "lets bring back EPCOT Center" mentality. Im all for Epcot evolving. It should evolve into its own entity though, not a carbon copy of MK.

People have a tendency to comprehend one thing by comparing it to another. Magic Kingdom and Epcot are similar in the fact that they are theme parks that entertain. However, the differences between them creates vividness. It allows each to become somewhat of a visual narrative. Contained within that narrative is a juxtaposition of sorts. A comparison can be drawn, but the contrasts are what evoke the differing emotions one will experience, aka, the magic. Without that, its just the same story repeating itself, or in this case, visiting the same theme park with the only unique separation being a few miles of monorail track.

Very eloquently stated.

While all of Walt Disney World should represent a cohesive theme, each of the individual theme parks and resorts should be allowed to evolve on their own, unique terms.

One of the facets of the Walt Disney World visit that still awes me is the the changing environments during the course of a day. I could wake up in Nantucket, have breakfast in France, "fly" across the Golden State, travel to Polynesia for lunch, walk down a turn of the century Main Street, view the world of tomorrow, and finish off the night in a secluded Yellowstone lodge watching a geyser go off.

Nowhere else in the world can you experience all of those environments at once, and that uniqueness would be jeopardized by the unification of distinct areas with "Disney" products.

This is one area where WDW absolutely excels over Disneyland. I loved what Disneyland had, don't get me wrong, but I also missed all that WDW has. If only better decisions were being made for all 4 parks as a whole. WDW really could be the absolute best Disney property in the world.

One of the best, emotion-free posts I've seen on the subject.

Had a dream last night that I was at a shopping mall and an employee led me to the roof where there was a hidden Frozen attraction that had been built by TWDC. It looked like a classic ufo saucer shape with a view port in the middle and had an arm attached to it. I thought, "great, a spinner"! The ride began spinning but all of the sudden came loose and flew straight at a tree. Right as we thought we were gonna crash it flew right through the tree and we were in Arrendelle and I realized the ride was also a simulator (Star Tours style) and took us flying over the lands from the movie while spinning and flipping. It was freakin awesome! Seriously, like the best ride ever. The whole time I kept thinking how lucky I was to experience it.

So we exit the ride and the employee led me to the basement. There was large steel doors that looked it was something out of a sci fi movie with blast doors covering an interior door. As we entered, the employee told me it was a prototype M&G with an all new Elsa AA. The room was a scene from the castle but the walls would change and morph and the Elsa AA was basically a flawless looking human that moved and talked and she was sitting on a throne with an empty throne style chair next to her. I jumped in the chair and handed my phone to the mall employee to take my photo. She refused and said she could get fired if anybody knew she let me in. After a moment of debating I convinced her to take a picture. All I was thinking was that I was gonna post it on here and show everybody how great it was and that we should truly be excited about the new ride. Right as she was gonna take the picture I woke up. lol. I was actually really happy when I woke up. My wife was sitting in the room with her coffee and I told her about my dream. She just looked at me and with a sarcastic chuckle siad, "you spend waaaaaaay too much time in that Frozen thread". It was a great dream though.

The Disney Blog has finally addressed the controversy.

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...disney-cruise-line-port-adventures-in-norway/

"When we call on Ålesund, Norway during our Norwegian fjord sailings this summer, you’ll have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit with these Disney friends from the neighboring kingdom of Arendelle."
