Interesting how this topic comes back up every now and then....
I posted this in another thread, perhaps the Ridemakerz one recently, and talked about what BABW would like to do.
Recap-
They have been wanting to get into DTD there in Orlando for many years..at least the past 5/6 at this point...but they are very picky about WHERE they are location-wise. From what i have been told, there is a particular building in the Marketplace that they want, but has yet to have emptied. Until that happens, we will more then likely not see a major full-scale BABW location at DTD. Until that happens, while they are waiting they have cleverly 'infiltrated' in a smaller capacity to insure they at least have some sort of presence there ( thus Build-a-Dino at the T-Rex Cafe and now the added temporary 'Ridemakerz').
The full-scale BABW location at DTD in California at one time offered a 'stuff your own' Mickey and Minnie Mouse, as well as exclusive Disney themed costumes and shirts. These items could only be purchased at that particular location, and it was the #1 Store Location of the company ( still ranks pretty high up on the list still..last i looked...)
Having a full-blown BABW at the Orlando DTD is easy money...but it will probably be a little longer before we see it happen. There are already several BABWs located around the area outside of Property...but yeah, it makes total sense to get one actually in the Markerplace for visitors who have yet to experience the concept.
Having a all-Disney themed one ( similar to the Dino-themed version at T-Rex) would be awesome IMO. It would require some serious investment ( from a Disney trademark standpoint) but would be a world exclusive location and have it's own unique themed stuff. It would be a goldmine, and both BABW and TDCO would be printing their own money with a operation like that. People already know the concept of 'making your own stuffed animal/plush toy' and the added novelty of it being mostly Disney characters would ROCK. I think this would be a great direction for them to go in, considering the 5+ locations of regular Build-a-Bear Workshops' already in the immediate Orlando area.
Somethin' to think about.
