We named our daughter Michaela, but we call her Mickey. She calls him "mouse", so we have officially confused her on just what his name is. She's got Minnie down pat though.
Hmm... we tried to give our children unusual (but not flat-out weird) names, so we actually avoided character names from Disney or anywhere else, figuring that they'd automatically be popular. As we discovered, however, finding a truly unique name is impossible. We thought we gave our son a distinctive name, only to have people asking, "Oh, is he named after [soap opera character we never heard of with that name]? Or [Buffy the Vampire Slayer character with that name]?" We were more careful in naming our daughter, and Googled to ensure we weren't inadvertently giving her a "well-known" name... only to have a Hollywood actress give her daughter the same name a couple of years after our daughter was born, claiming in interviews that she'd "invented" the unique and beautiful name herself. UGH - nobody ever wins the "name game"!
