Disney Animation getting out of the "Princess" business

We saw it last night and loved it. This week I finally saw Beauty and the Beast.

Tangled was better.

Me and my Son think they will have and deserve a permanent place in the parks.

They should build a tower where the Skyway station is.

By the way the full theater where we saw it, everybody clapped and cheered after the movie.

Just got home from seeing Tangled. Definitely quite impressed by it. I thought the plot was a bit more focused that PaTF (which I love) and the songs were much more memorable and enjoyable (I am a sucker for everything Menken has done). DD-6 loved it as well. Lots of laughs and tears for all.

In regards to getting out of the Princess business - they did that very thing from 1960 to 1989 and then again from 1999-2009. From a story-telling standpoint, you can't make a Princess movie every year and expect them to be great. They told a bunch in the 40s and 50s, a few more in the 90s and now 2 in the past two years. They don't have any princess stories in the pipeline, but I am sure when somebody writes a good script for one, I expect Disney will be there to put it out.

I have a HUGE problem with both Princess and the Frog and Tangled.

I just loved them both so much. That's my problem.

I can't even decide on which I like more- they were THAT good.

We ARE in a new renaissance. And it feels good.

Now for Tangled...

1.) The villain, Mother Gothel, is one of the best Disney villains ever. Her song(s) are spot on and some of Menken's best imo.

2.) Rapunzel reminds me if Ariel and Cinderella were rolled into one- which is a great thing.

3.) Pascal <3, best character of the movie (tied with Mother Gothel)

4.) People will definitely be bamboozled if they only go by the trailers for the movie with the stupid, stupid cliche Pink song. I mean, it's nothing like what any trailer for the movie would lead you to think it's about.

My ONLY con about this movie is having the Justin Bieber Documentary trailer before the film.

Agreed, it's just the media overblowing a statement, as they usually do.

It appears that after "Tangled" Disney Animation is getting out the "Princess" and fairy-tale business. This is very interesting, as the past few years have seen WDW jump head-first into this arena. I wonder if D.A. will continue with the direct-to-DVD releases of their princess-themed franchises, and if so, will they be enough to sustain an interest in the princess/fairy phenomena in the parks?

Another interesting tidbit from the article is that they rebranded "Tangled" to appeal to young males. I wonder if the parks are concerned about the same type of gender skewing.

Well they want to produce films that are not girl-centric that exclude half of the audience.

I saw Tangled yesterday and I don't think I have enjoyed a Disney movie that much since Aladdin. I was honestly grinning from ear to ear at the end of it and the lantern scene took my breath away. Please do yourself a favor and go see this movie, and if you can see it in 3D.
