Disney and their unions...again...

Maybe if Disney would pay their people more than 5 marshmallows a week (6 with tenure...and the occasional graham cracker around Christmas), they wouldn't be so reticent to shoulder some of the costs of healthcare.

All of this civil discussion nonsense may now cease as this thread proceeds into the crapper. :animwink:

Are we talking the regular size mallows or the mini size mallows?

A fellow CM came up with this idea. I think it's great.

Disney hires it's own staff of Doc's. 4 GP's, 4 Dentists’, 2 Eyes, 2 GYNO, 2 Cyro. Each one of them is paid $70,000 a year by Disney. Disney provides a building, and all supplies as well as nursing staff and office staff. Any minor medical issue that can be handled thru these people is FREE to ANY Disney employee or immediate family member. Anything that cannot be handled by the internal staff gets referred to Celebration Hospital at a 50/50 split.

They do not see anyone unless they work for the Walt Disney Company. Each Disney employee pays $10 a month towards the healthcare fund, the company pays the rest.

You agree to use these company provided docs at your own risk. You can only sue them for malpractice if you agree to a payment cap of 200k per incident.

I like your general idea. It'd be something Disney should look into.

As far as unions go...

Now if we could only expand that to include the whole nation and the government runs it....

(not that it would ever happen too many rich people would lose money...and that would eliminate medical insurance companies [but it won't happen of coarse they've made sure to pay the right amount to ensure this])

But back to the topic at hand...In this instance, I think the union is right in challenging Disney early...before they even think about raising anything...

Disney should in turn challenge its insurance company....or find another....

Sadly, it all boils down to money...health (and people) take the back seat...

The medical coverage and costs at WDW were great. I'm now paying approximately 15X more than what I payed at WDW, and getting coverage that's nowhere near as good as what I had in WDW. Most CM's don't know how good they have it. But that's primarily due to the Union telling the CM's what they want them to hear, rather than facts. But that's something that I've experienced with Unions everywhere.

Thought I'd add this from a doctors point of view.

Premiums for our employees have gone up 300% in the last 2 years but, we still get paid the same amount from the insurance company that we received in 1999.

Follow up visits for our patients are usually charged $69, and we receive $35.08 plus a copay, usually $25 and we have to write off the balance. That has not changed in the last 6 years. The only thing that has is the copay's have gone from $5 to $25 so we still get the same amount but the patient has a higher copay along with higher premiums.

The president of a local insurance company salary was $17 million a year in 2003 and the other vice presidents were all over $8 million a year.

I guess it must be difficult to raise premiums and pay less, but blame the doctors and hospitals for the rising healthcare costs.

I don't even want to get into the problems with the drug companies.
