Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Demon Slayer was great! A lot longer than I was expecting.

Anime (and Asian pop-culture) is obviously really having a moment. I wonder if we will start to see a more concerted land grab from the North American media companies.

In case @TP2000 is interested I’m at mickeys not so scary Halloween party and I’ve seen like 4 or 5 fantastic four costumes.
That is a Disney event so it will skew more Disney for sure. ;)The real test is your average neighborhood trick or treating. I know many here think it's a useless stat. But there's some insight to be had. It's not the end all be all, but it does give a glimpse into what kids/people are thinking about.

Does celebration Florida count as average neighborhood trick or treating? If it doesn’t then I’m afraid I have nothing to offer in this department.

I'd lean towards probably, but I can't say I've walked around and talked to everyone. I'll guess and say if you threw a dart at a celebration map. You have a much better chance of hitting a house with a Disney fanatic than not. But that might be my own perception. Lol

Maybe I’m just old Whitey, but I have no interest in anime. I specifically dislike the style of animation. I don’t care for subtitles. I didn’t even like the old speed racer cartoons. Just the way the mouths moved annoyed the hell out of me.

I sell a lot of their soundtracks, though! Especially Studio Ghibli.

Not much grabbing me at the theater this weekend. We did see the new one with Colin Farrell. He is cute as ever. The movie is a little odd but kind of fun.

I have actually never seen Toy story. Slight chance I’ll do an afternoon showing as an introduction. I don’t know why, I’ve just never been interested. My husband has seen it and likes them.

Try One Battle After Another, saw it Thursday, was pretty good.

Demon Slayer has now made over $600 million worldwide and will soon pass Superman's global total

Conjuring up to $435 million, passing Captain America

2 foreign language animated movies are in the top 10, same as the number of comic book movies

However, I don't expect any comic book movies to be there by year's end.

No.

I think they need to make hybrid style animated movies like Gatto.

They shouldn’t have the internet telling them what to do or how to make it. That’s bad for creativity.
It’s not the style of animation, a story needs emotional weight and consequences for character actions that ground the stories in real emotional stakes.
That will pull an audience in.
