My grandparents on my Moms side had a phone on their farm, but it was on a party line…3 short rings, one long.
My grandparents on my Pops side never had a phone on their farm.
The only way they/we knew of local news, or a visit, was when someone started up the long dirt road and the hounds started losing their minds…it was always such a fun thing…!!!!! :hilarious:

It's truly horrible. What I am not looking forward to is the next evolution of the internet... we're already noticeably beyond a stage where the hive mind of the internet could do amazing things utilizing the 'new' tools at hand. Noticeably in the past 5 years or so, that hive mind has gotten dull and useless and information/thought that was readily available is decreasingly so. I blame not necessarily AI but social media as it has rotted the usefulness of the internet. The years of wonder and awe at being connected to the world in ways we couldn't imagine have surpaassed people using that power and in turn are now just social media rot.

1. Reboots? What reboots? Star Wars and Indiana Jones were revived. But there have been no reboots. 2. According to my research universal has made about 35 prequels and sequels in the last 15 years. Warner bros Has made about 40. Disneys made 34 not counting DCOMs so they are not making more then their 2 biggest competitors.

I figured I'd check out the local theaters down here SD way this AM, ya know, in case we get a sudden hankering for a bit of post race Snow White... but my fears of not being able to find a seat are quite unfounded this morning-

I still think Disney has a Burbank bubble problem, they are surrounded by like minded people so they think thats how everyone thinks. The echo chamber needs more dissenting voices to say “that’s not going to go over well in middle America”, or “that’s not going to work with the Asian market”, without those voices the movies they make appeal to a far smaller audience than they need to to be profitable.

Disney has always pushed the boundaries, and I think they’ll continue to push them, but I think they’ve misjudged where the boundaries actually are, SoCal is far more progressive than the world is so if they’re making movies for the SoCal mindset they’re severely limiting their audience.

People celebrated when Perlmutter was forced out but the reality is they need more Perlmutters in the room to speak the realities of the world.

Yes, that dud was his, as were all the Marvel hits prior to 2019 when he was forced out, there’s been a distinct shift at Marvel since 2019 and it hasn’t worked out very well for them at the box office, people hated the guy but the reality is they need an old grump in the room to point out “that’s not going to work with half the world” or they risk half the world not showing up.

Perlmutter lost his control over Marvel Studios in 2015, not 2019. He merely retained control of Marvel’s TV and media division until 2019.

Perlmutter was a small, odious, vindictive person who was rightfully sidelined and ignored by the people building the MCU - that’s why he was so angry at Feige. He had next to nothing to do with the successful run of films.

The MCU hit rougher waters when Feige stepped back from day-to-day involvement.

In other box office drama news, did you know there's a whole world of Looney Tunes drama going on?

Over at Warner Brothers, which is regularly ticking off the fans, there's a guy named David Zaslav, who has managed to gain a reputation as not just a generally incompetent person, but also a Looney Tunes hater (a sad, bizarre title to have).

He's blamed for shelving Coyote vs. ACME (and frankly I think it looked like crap, so I can't blame him) and trying to can the made-for-TV movie The Day the Earth Blew Up. The latter was bought by a small distributor and managed to go to theaters, but they don't have a big marketing budget, so it's made like six million in three weekends. It cost fifteen million to make and no one knows how much it was bought for, so people are still rooting for it.

Now, the funny part is that Zaslav personally greenlit a project called Alto Knights, which has apparently been written and floating around for a long time but no one wanted to actually make it (it's a ganster movie and those aren't exactly popular at the moment).

The punchline is that Alto Knights is failing miserably to the point where it's set to make LESS than The Day the Earth Blew Up.

If there's a lesson to be learned here it's that, if you love something old, both Disney AND Warner Brothers are likely to screw it up. Hope Paramount grabs it, I guess.

(The internet talked me into seeing TDtEBU and now I'm invested.)
