Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

And the results for the Flash are shocking to exactly nobody who has paid any attention at all to the production or media coverage around the talent.

I have to imagine WB was preparing to cut their losses some time back in early 2022 with the release delays being more about trying to find the right time to drop it so it would loose less rather than about it making more, so to speak.

Somehow, I don’t think Disney’s goal was for Indy to hopefully only fail mildly rather then badly.

Iger has sold the franchise model to investors to the point that every box office disappointment means there’s a cascading effect: no spin-off/sequel will follow. Look at the final shot of Dial. They clearly wanted to lay the groundwork for a Helena spin-off series, probably for D+. I think the likelihood of that is in doubt. Which means added salt to the wound for Disney and Lucasfilm.

Overall this has been a disastrous year for Disney’s theatrical releases. Goes to show a total overhaul is needed. Or start taking a chance on younger talent. Something needs to happen differently because this is the phase of diminishing returns.

They maybe trying to reel in the spending on productions as I’ve seen in a few articles recently that both Adam Driver and Margot Robbie have been dropped from the Fantastic Four reboot after Marvel decided they are too expensive.

Here's data for the first-half year US distributor of box office films so far. Universal surpasses disney in this number, but i would expect Disney would take over somewhere.

I actually wouldn't want either in the franchise, maybe somewhere else in the MCU but not the first family, so I'm happy they got dropped.

Indy is making about what the flash will…

Every time you try and divert attention from Disney collapsing LFL…I’ll be here to wave 👋
So what is your point except trying to start fights with people? You must feel so proud of yourself paying a premium fee to come to this sight to fight and insult. Personally, I can find better things to do with my money. Since you complain about Disney because you invest in their stocks, here is a valuable bit of advice. Stop paying Disney stock and stop paying your premium membership just to harass people Unless it gives you glory which, in that case, have at it lol.

Yeah…well…he likes…drugs children and gives them machine guns and stuff…

That seems to be a little more of a concern than kiri hart types and LFL just sucking eggs outloud.

What is the point of bringing up flash?

And I’ll give you the $60 for the membership if you want it!! Second time you brought that up.

Do you think it’s a private dinner club for Disney apologists? You’re gonna be disappointed.

Do you accept Venmo?

The point of bringing up The Flash? Two reasons. #1 the box office was being discussed. #2 Disney movies are not the only ones doing less than expected.

But LOL-you pay $60 to come to a board to try and bait, insult, harass, and attack people and a company about which the board was made? That's pretty funny. Pathetic, but funny.

I think the Flash is doing exactly as expected to anyone who's been paying attention to what's been going on with it for the last two years... and is being honest.

That's why Sirwalterraleigh is pouncing on you for bringing that particular example up as a comparison, here.

You're either entirely clueless to the history of that movie and the public controversy around it's star - so much so, they were afraid to even use him to help promote it - or you're intentionally debating with false equivalents.

You can insult and argue non-stop with people without paying for a premium membership. One has nothing to do with the other! (You can always refuse to join in the argument or just use the ignore button.)

And yet…that does NOTHING to address Disney puking all over itself. And coupled with excuses…like the now legendary “success/failure” label…it looks “disingenuous”…not objective.0

I don’t swallow it. And that list is growing. Because they’re failing.

If the movies were better…I’d praise them. But I won’t act like a child and try to lie that into existence. Maybe when we’re all grown ups, huh?

That's putting it mildly. After The Flash showed up in conversations here with vague allusions to the "problems" with the star, I had no idea who the star was so a week or so ago I went to Google him...

Oh. My. Gawd. What an absolute PR nightmare that Miller kid is. He makes Armey Hammer just look like a guy who does Keto.

And Warner Bros. kept Miller under employment for a mega-budget movie? And thought it wouldn't be a problem? Really, really bad judgement from HR there. On the bright side, with The Flash now being a new synonym for mega-flop, I doubt Miller will work in Hollywood again. Good riddance.

They tried to “hedge” it…

Take the labels that are recognizable everywhere and put younger actors into it thinking they’ll get 20 years of box office tread out of them. Like mentally lazy stuff.

They unfortunately walked down the wrong dark alley when they tried the LFL titles…

…oh no…messing with the wrong dog there.

And any diligence when they bought it would have showed that. Not too tough

What exactly is it that you are saying that you think people don't understand?
They don’t…because they can’t put their ears on the shelf for a second and recognize a problem.

These problems resonate all the way out to the other stuff we come here to - hopefully - enjoy

Don’t play the fool on this…”it’s ok, Disney, you really didn’t fail…” is non productive.

It helps neither the sycophants nor the cynics.

Peruse these movie/box office threads…it’s sad.

The sad thing is it probably would have worked if they’d been more clever. Unfortunately the studios don’t seem motivated to make good stories anymore, that takes writing new and fun scripts and characters, which is hard, much easier to just change every leading man character into a woman or minority and hope that gets people in seats.

Luke Skywalker, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Rocky, Oceans 11… no one wants to see strong leading men anymore, that’s why Maverick was such a colossal failure 😉.

Okay, maybe I misunderstood. It seemed like you were making obvious points like "if people buy a product, then a company will make more of it" and then claiming people don't understand the concept. You're just upset because they understand but choose to buy the product or defend the company when you think they shouldn't. That's much harder to correct than a lack of understanding.
