Rock-afire Explosion was the best! The unification change to CEC was brutal. It just wasn't the same. But props to them for making it work. Had no idea it was a simple reskin! Today's CEC is just terrible. (though I'm not the target demo so can't comment on the effectiveness of the giant screen) My last time in a CEC was probably 2001-2... I remember dancing along with Chuck to the bossa nova Austin Powers tune. Ha. good times good times! Still nothing can top the nostalgia of the Rock-afire Explosion!

What's nice is out here in Il there is an Auto Museum in Volo that recently acquired a Rockafire Explosion as part of their exhibit which also has Beagles Cabaret stage and few others..Plus this museum has a ton of Disney park related vehicles used..Recently they got the Epcot Characters on Holiday Omnibus, and they are planning to refurbish a car from the Star and Motorcars parade...Aaand they also got the parade vehicles from Mickey's Jammin Jungle parade too..

Here is a better quality video of the 'Chuck E. verses Mickey Mouse' footage I was talking about earlier.
I found my old VHS tape copy that I discovered back when i used to work for CEC and uploaded this segment complete, so now you can see the random moment in its entirety.

This originally came from a early 90s 'F.Y.I.' Managers video produced by the company that was meant to be viewed by CEC employees only and then disposed of.
A few crazy nuts like me kept these gems for archival purposes.

In the early 90s it would have been Showbiz.

Oh, don't get me started on the nonsense they did after NYSE....

This is why they should team up again! :) Just imagine Minnie, Daisy and Helen hanging out!

You guys should read my stories where they're all BFFs. They're great!

Here they are if you're curious. :)

I was following everything back in 2012 during the "New Chuck" rollout (and the scandal we called "Funnergate"); Duncan Brannan was let go by CEC and he only found out after reading the news article on SP.com.. "good" times.

I was listening to Duncan doing his Chuck voice and I almost cried.

Imagine him working alongside Bret Iwan. =D

For those who may have been following the saga regarding the new Company owners' plans to remodel existing CEC Stores into the 'Pizzaria' test concept with NO animatronic shows.....

Good news.

I have heard from someone high up in the Company that it turns out that those test locations that have been open are not pulling in the sales as hoped.
They do terrific for about two months, which is typical for any 'new place', but then the newly remodeled 'Pizzaria' CEC concept Stores lose the rosey sales numbers rather quickly.
So the 'Pizzaria' CEC 2.0 concept is a bust...and Guests have voted with their dollars.
The Company is now looking at other options, including testing a few new 'Pizzaria' concept locations that will KEEP the exsisting animatronic show.
The silly 'Dance Floor' concept didn't make a real difference and visitors to the test locations miss the animatronics.
Stores that have shows still in good working order as being targeted for the possible makeover.

Who could have predicted this....?
( raises hand and laughs )
:)

This reminds me SO much of CEC Entertainment's failed attempt back in the early 2000s to remove the animatronic entertainment with the rollout of the 'Smalltown CEC' Location concept.
This was a downsized CEC that had no animated entertainment and was designed to be a tiny shoebox sized location to be placed between larger established locations.
Basically, a CEC 'lite' with much smaller interiors, less games, and only tv monitors and the costumed character for entertainment.
The Company was gung ho about this 'downsized' concept and was absolutely convinced that this was the future for CEC.
For years beforehand they had been trying for some time to ditch the 'expensive' animated shows, as the perception was Guests were not paying attention to them.

Whelp, they tried...and Guests didn't go for it,
They missed the animatronics and the concept flopped...thank the Gods.

So it looks like the various animated shows, wether Cyberamic, Electronimation, or Garner Holt Productions will be with us for quite a bit longer.
I for one am glad.
It really is the ONLY thing that separates CEC from the pack of copycat entertainment complexes.

Here is a video i shot back in 2005 of a terrific animation example of Garner Holt's version of Chuck E. Cheese.
A expressive figure, and animated / programmed by someone who really knew what he was doing ( you GO, Matt! )
A Studio C 'Alpha' stage, fully operational, with all movements and lights working.
Rare to find in the field now, it seems.

One time I went to one of the updated stores and Chuck was supposed to be on his stage however the show would play...But, no Chuck was there....However, when a child was celebrating their birthday...He then came up...Now it could have been to being low staffed or they just forgot but, I can say many kids pretty much ignored it while they ate and or were playing the games....It's just an extra bit of entertainment needed for parents to watch while their kids are running around...

Count me in as another "veteran" (though not from inside the company) of the fandom; been following the company since I was around 10 in 2005 (mostly through the aforementioned ShowBizPizza.com and the message boards on that site). It always amuses me when Disney and CEC cross paths in discussions because my life was surrounded by both of them as a child.

I was following everything back in 2012 during the "New Chuck" rollout (and the scandal we called "Funnergate"); Duncan Brannan was let go by CEC and he only found out after reading the news article on SP.com.. "good" times.

Just leaving this here.

Ooh, nice! He'd be impressed. =D

-------------------------------

A clip from the CEC Entertainment movie Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000 plays during the BuzzzTube scene of Ralph Breaks the Internet. The movie stars Duncan Brannan as the voice of Chuck E. Cheese, Jeremy Blaido as the voice of Jasper T. Jowls and Georgia Denney as the voice of Helen Henny.

This is a reference and tribute to the team-up between CEC Entertainment and Disney in 1994 when several showtapes were being made by The Walt Disney Company, with filming for the video footage taking place at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney's contract expired two years later in 1996, and the shows were made by the entertainment part of CEC Entertainment, which would later be named “Department 18 Productions”. Before even that, CEC worked closely with Disney on an unaired Christmas special and the CECTV intro.
