I'd have no issue with the After Hours party if it wasn't cutting into normal summer closures of 11/12. Start the party at Midnight and have it be a true "after hours" party, put the VIPs in pajamas and guests will eat it up. So I don't necessarily begrudge the idea, but I disagree with the way they go about it, which I think could apply to many here.

That has been my issue is that they have cut back summer hours for this party. I have never seen A July with this many 10pm closes. And to do it on Saturday nights really screws the local AP holders. They have already had issues with a lot of paasholders dropping down a tier this may convince even more of them that Platinum pass isn't worth it. I do wonder why all of a sudden we are getting these paasholder nights and perks for Gold and higher.

ISIBISIA... they've already got your money. Why should they care?

We did 2 nights of after hours in August and while crowds were low, neither evening was as low as the night the bloggers were given free admission to the park. After hours appears to be a popular event and Guests are willing to pay extra for it. I don't see it going away anytime soon.

December 3 and 10 don't make any sense. I don't understand why anyone would pay $125 for after hours with fewer hours and less entertainment verses a MVMCP admission at $99 (shifted by one night) MVMCP dates in early December are 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13 & 16, all priced out as $99 before any discounts.

If the MNSSHP this year is any indication, they don't seem to be limiting attendance at the parties. AFAIK, the After Hours events are still pretty limited, ticket-wise. Someone may prefer paying the extra money for the lighter crowds, even if they miss the Christmas shows, candy, etc. Not me, but somebody.

It’s clearly an experiment, DAH is much cheaper to run then a holiday party, if it goes well everyone wishing there was less holiday parties will get their wish, except they will be replaced by DAH.

Demand is pretty high for those parties, so I don't see them cutting down for a while. If anything, they'll do what they're currently doing, which is taking an evening without a party and tacking the After Hours event onto it. It will only become a problem if they start shortening days that used to be longer for regular guests in order to add an upsell event. Wait. They have been doing that already.

^If demand is just as high for DAH, and it’s cheaper to run DAH then MNSSHP or MVMCP then they are going to reduce the number of holiday parties. Look at DL vs MNSSHP. The first MHP hasn’t happened but every Friday party is sold out, MNSSHP rarely sells out, if DAH is more profitable they will simply reduce party nights until demand is as crazy high as DL.

Besides everyone complains about not being able to see Happily Ever After during the last quarter of the year, Disney could spin this as how they are listening to their guests and providing them with more nights with MK’s classic nighttime entertainment.

MNSSHP sold out on opening night this year, even with the greater number of tickets on offer. It doesn't usually sell out until much later in the season. I think that there are a lot of people who are willing to pay $100 for a party, where they have special entertainment, meet & greets, etc. who won't pay even more, just for a few hours of low crowds. That's not to say that DAH won't sell. It will. I just think that it appeals to a different, smaller, crowd.

^Im with you there, I have no plans to ever do DAH, but always go to a holiday party when I’m there for them (I’m doing both coasts Halloween parties this year.) But clearly people are buying DAH, I think that December week is a “play test” to see if they can sell people on DAH when parties are available.

Patience. Let's watch what happens when this record-long bull market ends. Does anyone remember 2009? There were plenty of promos/special deals WDW used to coax people back to their hotels and parks. When the next crash hits, all the hard tic events will be luxuries most families can't afford. Many more will cancel the whole trip.

People are feeling stupid confident right now and charging up a storm. What goes up....

Quite possibly. Even with the parties, the beginning of December is still (relatively) light on attendance. I imagine that a DAH on that night will be reallllly empty. It will be interesting to track.
