Disney adding a new park?

Some ideas for another theme park at Disney World: Definitely something inspired by Walt Disney's EPCOT. Maybe a Hollywood themed park? Or perhaps a park with an animal theme? Oh wait a minute. . .

I think what one poster said about WDW is true. There is no way Disneyland should have about the same amount of rides and attractions in two parks that WDW has in 4. The reality is is that DLR is so small so they have to cram a lot in a little space, and WDW has the space to spread it out. But when it all boils down to it, you're really wasting more of your vacation on buses or waiting for buses to parks, waiting to get your bag checked at each park, and walking long distances to get to rides. Sure WDW can create better landscapes and scenery and immersion with space, but they just need more to do in all of the parks. I rather do DLR in 2 to 3 days then waste a week trying to do WDW(which I'd never do because it's the same ole same ole at this point and I've been there many times and they charge more for less, but in perspective of a Disney virgin) You can pretty much do the same stuff, and everything is within walking distance and you just check your bag once.

I think they'll way down the future maybe build on the existing parks but I stil see it staying as 4 parks and 2 water parks. I think the added areas at HS in toy story land and Star Wars land will help as well as avatar land at AK. And adding the water show at AK will help it become a full day park. Disney Springs will help as well. The crowdedness at wdw will be better with all these additions.

Do they have the space and resources?

They definately have the space!

Back when Walt Disney bought the land for WDW, they wanted to make sure the same thing that happened to DisneyLand, didn't happen at WDW!

With DL, there are business that popped up all around, and detracts from the theme and magic.

To avoid a burst of land speculation, Walt Disney World Company used various dummy corporations to acquire 30,500 acres (12,343 ha; 48 sq mi) of land.

They do have a lot of land, but not a lot of large chunks left, although there is enough for at least on more major park if they wanted to.

Do you ever think Disney World will expand to a 5th park? I know talks about a new one couple years back called Night Kingdom was a rumor but never happened. Do you think it'll happen or just they'll stick to expanding the 4 other theme parks?

Welcome to WDWMagic! My guess is not anytime soon. MK is pretty much built out although there are rumors about an expansion of Frontierland. Epcot has Soarin' Around the World on the horizon (sorry, couldn't resist) as well as the Frozen expansion in Norway. There is Avatarland coming to Animal Kingdom. And your thoughts about "Night Kingdom" may be in reference to making AK into an all day park (with a Rivers of Light show at night, nighttime version of Safari, and the very nature of Avatarland having an evening vibe to it.) And then there's HS. Everyone knows about the coming Toy Story and Star Wars Lands. So, to make a short story long, all of this to say, there is still all this build out in the existing parks before they would even think about adding a 5th gate.

The questions were mostly rhetorical.

Yes.

They're adding one in your front yard. I hope you have parking.

I'll take a different view than many here and say... yes, I think they definitely will, and sooner rather than later. My gut is that Universal is on the verge of announcing a third park. If they do, I think Disney will feel compelled to respond with a fifth park. Don't forget, it was the opening of Universal Studios Florida in the first place that prompted Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios) to be built, and the success of Universal with Wizarding World of Harry Potter that has prompted Disney to step up its game in terms of expansions. I see the same happening with regards to a new park.

My prediction: Within 24-36 months, both Universal and Disney will have announced brand new theme parks.

In regards to Universal and MGM, Michael Eisner had a way different agenda than Bob Iger does ;). Eisner had Disney rapidly building in the late 80's in general.

I'm telling you... everybody disagrees with me, and that's fine. :) But regardless of what you think of Bob Iger's management philosophy, Disney is not going to let Universal add a 3rd gate without responding. Universal is clearly headed to an announcement of a 3rd gate in the not too distant future, and I would go to Vegas and bet everything I own on the proposition that before too long after that, Disney will announce a 5th gate.

Disney building a new gate out of a shallow need to "respond" would be awful.

How crazy is this idea? Make the 4 parks you currently have so SO entertaining that the "competition" can't hold a candle to them. We know, we know, this means spending money, maybe creating new rides, and actually being proactive, not reactive. Guess it will never be so, so bring on the 5th gate.

I have it on good authority that Disney will NEVER build a 5th gate, they are skipping right to the 6th gate. ;)
