How about having a forum or sub forum for discussion/tips/ideas about enjoying disney with disabilties/special needs? there are so many questions, and those of us with special needs who have done disney may well have the answers!

I agree...as I have a special needs child. Can we get this started?

I think this is a good idea.
My youngest is autistic, and something that has really worked for us is to bring along a set of headphones to muffle the noises of the parks and attractions. It allowed him to process everything at his own pace. Sometimes it doesn't take much to become easily overwhelmed with all the sights and sounds at the parks, even for a neurotypical person!

Thanks for the suggestions. I havn't seen that many threads on this subject yet. I tend to add new boards when there are signs that there are enough posts to support their own section. If you think there are a lot of threads on this subject, let me know, and I will be happy to take another look. Also, if more people think that creating a board will be of use, please reply here and we can gauge interest.
Thanks! :)

Many forum members have aging parents who may not have a disabilty (or only minor ones) at home, but aren't up to walking all around WDW. There are others who may have had unexpected injuries/illnesses/surgeries right before a trip who might be facing brand new mobility or other problems.

I know I was pretty clueless when I brought my mother in 2001, shortly after a hospitalization where she coded, and had to "take it easy" (I had to promise her doctor I would watch her, and push her in a wheelchair) if she wanted clearance for her trip. (50th anniversary, my treat)

Special needs could also include those who have special dietary needs, due to allergies, etc.

So we ALL might be seeking advice in this forum at some time. ;)

In the meantime, in case we never get a disabilities forum here, or it takes awhile, the Disboards does have a disAbilities! forum.

Delete if you must, but I'm not trying to promote them, I just want to see those who need some specific disability-related advice and opinions get it, and that board seems to be chock-full of awesome advice for dealing with all kinds of disabilities at the World, whether it be a child with autism or an elderly parent who has trouble getting around.

a special needs/disabilities forum can be very helpful, as i have discovered that wheelchair/scooter/GAC related questions in the main forums tend to turn into the "wheelchair abusers" debates, and good advice gets lost...

As long as you don't include a link, or it isn't an "US vs THEM" or dragging forum issues back and forth, I have no problem with it. I have often sent people a PM advising them to search there for more information about specific topics.
