Can someone explain Direct to Room for me? I did the online check in and my room is fully paid for. So I'm not sure if that means I'm signed up for direct to room check in or if there's something else I need to do.

With online check in you will receive a text & an email when your room is ready. If you receive that text before you get to your hotel you can go directly to your room and your set to go! Technically check in isn't until 3pm but I have often received that text @ 10 or 11am and was able to proceed directly to my room.

Forgot to mention they will also text you a link to a map of the resort so you can more easily navigate to your room.

Ok so then I guess I am all set! When I did online check-in I noted that I would be there around 11am but I'm not counting on it. Thank you!

I've done online check in 5 times now and there was only 1 time where my room wasn't ready when I got there. Where are you staying??

Maybe because I did check in when i did my College Program, but I am a traditionalist and still do the check in every time! :) For me, it's the first part of the trip, and a great opportunity to explore the resort.

That said...the online check in is a fantastic option, especially if you're headed straight to the parks.

Am I the only one who loves on-line check in? The worst parts of our trips(except going home) was getting to the resort after flying 1/2 the day with 2 little kids and then having to wait in a long line just to get our room key. The lines would sometimes be over 30 minutes long and then stand there and wait for them to enter all of your info was another 10 minutes. So I would wait in line while hubby tried to watch the luggage and keep the kids from going crazy and it was not fun. We just wanted to get our room and start our vacation.

No, you're not the only one!!! I've done online check-in before, but never have gotten a direct-to-room text, for various reasons (room wasn't ready, needed to make a special room request, etc.). Doing online check-in when you STILL have to stand in line doesn't seem to save me any time at the arrival day check-in, and sometimes we've waited longer than people in the traditional check-in line (e.g., only one line dedicated to online check-in and several for traditional check-in, so if one person ahead of you ends up being high-maintenance and takes a long time, you're stuck...)! We get all excited because we've finally arrived and can't wait to drop our bags and rush to the MK, and then we're stuck standing in a line. Total buzzkill.

This time, however, I hope we'll get it right, with online checkin AND direct-to-room. We're arriving at CBR's Custom House via DME on 11/14 right around 3pm, and will be checking in online ahead of time. I am very much hoping that I'll have received a "magical" direct-to-room text that will save us that wait in line, and let us simply hop on a Bell Services van (or whatever other conveyance shuttles people and their carryons to their village) and head straight to the room. I will probably still stop at Custom House later in the day (we have a 1-night room-only reservation, followed by a 6-night "free" dining room+tix package reservation, both in the same room category, and I need to make sure they'll have noted our request not to have to switch rooms the following morning), but it would be awesome to be able to do that at my own convenience, after visiting MK, and not before. :)

I love the online check-in but my room is never ready! HA! :) So I have yet to use the direct to room feature. I am hopefully for our next trip! :)

I've done online check in and gotten my room number texted to me a few times and it is awesome!!!! Some people don't care to have that option and that is fine, the Front Desk is still there and even if you get your room number via text, you can still ask questions if you need to. The interaction is only reduced if you want it to be. Try it, it is pretty great honestly!!! Marie

I actually don't prefer the on-line check-in. I can agree with those who have said that the check-in process is part of the "Disney Experience". I find the check-in process with the very polite cast members to be both an exciting and enjoyable start to the trip. But I must admit that we have only stayed at deluxe resorts and thus maybe had a better experience.

You've all been super helpful. But can someone tell me, how do I know if I'm signed up for direct to room? Or is it just that I've done online check in and if my rooms ready I'll get a text?

Go Back into your online check in, there is a spot that asks for your cell phone number specifically to text you the room number information. If this is completed, you are good to go!!!
The cast members I have always had are wonderful, this just gives me the option to proceed with my plans for the day, without stopping at the Front Desk area. Marie

My last vacation was in February, and we were able to go directly to our room. It was very nice. Had no trouble finding our way, since they texted us our room # and a Pop Century Map. It wasn't my first time staying at Pop, so that helped me greatly, since I was already familiar with the layout of the resort.

We received a text at 6:30 am last year that our room a Pop Century was ready. We hadn't even left Jacksonville, FL for the last leg of our drive yet.

I love the official start of vacation by checking in at the front desk. But this year our flight lands at 9:05 pm so by the time Magical Express gets two tired parents and one "enthusiastic" 4-year-old to the resort around 10:00 pm or later I'll be VERY thankful that we can go straight to our room.

You won't get your bags until the middle of the night. Consider leaving the yellow tags off and picking them up yourself at baggage claim.

That's our plan- divide and conquer in the airport and get to the bus ASAP. He's in charge of going to baggage claim for our suitcase. I'm in charge of the 4-year-old. I think he got the better end of the deal.
