Direct to Room Check-In coming?

This is really a great idea. I've never been fond of parking at the resort, and having our luggage and the rest of the party sit off to the side while one person goes to wait in line in order to check-in. Now we just go in and right to the room....no muss, no fuss. It gets us in our room faster, which means getting out to the parks faster too.

Like so much of what Disney does these days, it's a good idea in THEORY. I'll withhold judgment until I see how it works in REALITY. If I have to return to the front desk anyway because something doesn't work, then there's no benefit to it.

Sorry. I don't know what you mean. Why would that require changing the size of the entrance plazas?

Because the MB reading process is so slow - just look at the gates at any resort with drivers fiddling with MB's trying to get gate to open. You would need more lanes to compensate for the slowdown caused by the MB reading process.

Don't forget paying a 'guest service fee' for interacting with a human even though it's THEIR fault, Like Verizon Wireless does for those stupid enough to want to pay bill in person.

Like too many other things at WDW this one is all about the money.

What would you do if you are not staying at a resort but driving there for dinner or drinks?

WDW does not want your business if you are not 'in the WDW bubble' So I'm sure they will invent some convoluted process which involves handing over drivers license which will be returned when you leave. Sort of like travelling in the old Soviet Union where you gave the Intourist rep (in reality KGB) in your hotel your passport and they gave you a 'Propusk' which you exchanged for passport on checking out.

WDW also employs about a trillion people, the total number is constantly fluctuating, if a CM isn't needed at the Front Desk, they might get moved to the gift shop, or whatever. This is going to have a very minimal effect on WDWs employment #s.

For what it's worth, I'm excited to use this bit of tech on my Septemeber trip. I own DVC, and really, I don't need the spiel at check in. The faster I get to my room the faster I can get to my 180 day scheduled meal or 60 day scheduled magical experience.
It wouldn't exactly kill to raise their standards for hiring.

When stressing for new blood, they take what they can get.

I apologize if this has already been addressed in a previous post, but I will ask anyway. We just recently booked a trip for April at Port Orleans Riverside. We will be arriving at MCO at approximately 9:30am. If we were to use the "Direct-to-Room" process, could we take the Magical Express directly from the airport to a park (HS for us on day 1) or would we have to take the ME to Port Orleans then take a bus to HS? Thanks in advance.

DME does not run to the parks, so you would still have to off-board at your resort. EDIT::: Well at A resort onsite anyway

Thank you. We have always lined up for DME at the resort in which we are staying. There would be no problem with us getting in a DME line for, say, the Boardwalk and walking/boating to HS?

There may be. Buses are dispatched based upon the number of guests that check in at the podium. Since your ressie is tagged to POR, when you scan your band at the podium, it tells the computer "Party of 3 for POR" Then getting the BW line means you may have to wait longer if the system thinks there is no one in line. You may be able to request a bus to a different resort at the podium, but I have no idea how the system would handle that.

Thank you. This was very helpful.
