Dinosaur Ride

Could someone please tell me about the Dinosaur Ride in Animal Kingdom? I just want to know if it's like a roller coaster or has any "dips" or sudden drops. I have read some info on it but have not been able to figure out if it's just like a ride in a car or more of a coaster ride. Thanks!

It's a little of both. You are in a car that runs on a guide rail much like a dark ride. But the vehicle itself moves about like a simluator ride. Also, there is one small drop at the very end.

My wife (who was scared by BTMRR) absolutely loves this ride.

Hope this helps.

Thanks that was helpful! Do you remember just how much of a drop it is in the end? Like is it like the small drop during Splash Mountain? Or bigger?

That little drop is very small and you actually go down pretty slow. It feels faster because of the way the car moves but it doesn't really "drop" you. I always think of the thing as a really bumpy jeep ride.

It is like going four wheel driving through a dark forrest with an insane driver. It jostles you around alot with bumps and bouncing and speeding around corners. I don't really consider there being any dips in the ride except the end where it maybe goes down a 8-10 foot hill (which is also where the most terrifying dinosaur is).

It's a simulator ride. You ride in a big car just like Indiana Jones has in Disneyland. There's a small drop at the end of the ride.

My husband (who likes all the WDW parks and rides) absolutely loves this ride.

Hope this helps.

This is a great ride!. And like everyone has said, there are bumps and jolts and the drop is not like a rollercoaster at all..go for it!

Nobody mentioned the frightening sights and sounds!

Seriously, though, everyone above is right on with the physical aspects, but there are sudden sights and sounds that can frighten young children and even some adults.:)

And it's VERY dark...not PotC dark, but pitch black dark for at least 1/2 of the ride. Then scary dinosaurs pop out at you! It could be too intense for children who are afraid of the dark.

In a computer tone: "Carnatorous." (Just close your eyes when you hear that.)

It's most freaky. Beware. Sit in the middle of the middle. Overall, it's fun.

I find the scariest part seeing my picture at the end. :animwink: :D

Just a correction - there is not a T-Rex in Dinosaur. You enconter many dinosaurs during the ride (many reminiscant of the Dinosaur Movie) and run into a Carnotaurus (meat eating bull) 4 times. One of them takes your picture and my game it to make a funnier pose each time I ride it.

The ride is actually an identical track to Indiana Jones at Disneyland, it was just themed differently and they added a preshow to clue you into the point of the ride. This ride is similar to Spiderman at IOA, however, it uses audioanamatornics instead of 3-D film images. There is one Carnotaurus who actually chases you for 30 feet.

Thank you all for all of your wonderful information! It sounds like a cool ride..........the dark and scary part I don't really mind. It's the feeling of leaving the ground and going DOWWWWWN that bothers me. :hurl:

hey there Margaret mouse!!! I have gone onto Dinosaur before. The drop isnt a big deal at all. Really small like a smaller drop on Splash Mtn if even that bad. I do agree with the other posters in that small children and even some adults (Namely me) are not too thrilled with this ride. Dinosaurs popping out from the pitch blackness, Sounds effects etc make this something you should carefully consider for the younger members of your group, if any. On one of my last trips, I waited with my best friends two younger children (8 and 4) while the older guy(12), Mom and Dad went on. Well Mom hid her face in the 12 year old's shoulder!!!! She didnt care for the ride and probably wouldnt do it again. I will do it only if given no other choice. The theming and animatronics are incredible, but I dont like dark or scary things popping out at me!! Belle

I rode it for the first time a few weeks ago with my 9year old and 15 year old. We sat in the front row of the car and I was on the left side. At the end, when viewing the pictures...I was the one with my eyes clamped shut and head tucked down into my chest. :) It scared the dickens out of me but I loved it. My 9 year old says he wont go on it again but my 15year old loved it too. Honestly, I didnt even notice the small drop, I was too worried about the dinosaur to even notice.
