Dinosaur Carnotaurus

I do believe that the ending was a metorite heading towards you before the switch to the Carno head during the earlier years of CTX..Anyone know?

Actually, it was a big comet explosion, but they couldn't get the desired effect so Eisner made them change to something more exciting and since WDI had a Carno head, that was used a model, so they used it for the finale.

Say what you will about Eisner but that is what I liked about him. He actually put input into the smaller things in the parks.

As usual... Universal did that better.

I will say, however.. The rest of the entire Dinosaur ride is a lot more thrilling than Uni's river ride :)

Since you brought it up, if anyone is interested, here are the patent illustrations for this.

Deductive reasoning.
Out of hundreds of known dinosaur species they both focused on the same 8 and adopted identical coloration schemes despite there being no scientific evidence as to the colors or patterns. This is not coincidence; this is synergy.

Ehh... Kinda sketchy in my opinion.

Is there a source on that? I did not know that! .-.

well, Aladar was always Aladar, before we knew that he had a name. The difference between the ride Aladar and the film version is that the ride verison still has a beak, like a proper iguanodon, while the movie version has lips to make his lipsync more believable.

I always thought that that ride carnotaurus has crooked horns to resemble one of the ones in the film, but i can't find an example to prove this 100%. A toy carnotaurus from the film that I used to own had those same crooked horns, too.

There is also this bit from the IMDB.

And finally, it's just a stylistic thing, but the Dinosaur film raptors and the former CTX raptor(s) share a very distinctive, similar look (compare them to Jurassic Park style raptors, for example).

The Rators in the movie and ride Dinosaur are actually more true to real life. Velociraptor was not as big as they are in Jurassic Park. There actually is a species that big though called Utahraptor.

Okay, I'm gonna sound like a newbie here, but a few days ago I rode and the b-mode Carno head appeared to move a little, which I had never seen before. Any validity to this, or were my eyes playing tricks on me?
It moved last month too. More like the rod that supports it rocked forwards.

Has it really been down for weeks now?

Oh gosh yes, I know that about real life raptor types! I was just looking for a good style comparison, and most people are familiar with the Jurassic Park ones, I think, so I mentioned them. It was just my clumsy way of saying that stylistically the CTX raptor(s) are just like the ones from the animated film, that's all XD

I say raptor(s) because they also have those swivel head raptors that they put into scenes sometimes.

Only semi-related, but way back when i was still a CM i used to ride Dinosaur fairly often. I would get off of work at the Studios, head to AK, and take a few rides on it. For about a week straight there were 2 Carnotaurus (what is the plural of this?) in the room that contained the first one. The regular figure, and one in the back left corner of the room, facing away. I just assumed that maintenance was working on the one in the back of the room or something. This was like 12 years ago and to this day, whenever i ride Dinosaur i look at the back corner of that room to see if anything is there. Am I crazy, or has anyone else seen that before?

And, to keep my long winded reply relevant to the topic at hand, i first discovered Carno-head-on-a-stick during a track walk in 2000. It was kind of eerie seeing it up there. There is also (perhaps was, this was awhile ago) a painting on a nearby wall too, of a carnotaurus head. This was 14 years ago, so exact placement is foggy for me, but i remember the CM we were with telling us that in dire emergencies the painting was used, otherwise the one on a stick was the alternate. You'd have to completely turn around and have the lights on to see it. Back when i did this track walk all i had was a disposable camera so most of the photos i took were lost to darkness :( I still have one of me in front of the photo carno, though! And one showing those wretched compsognathus' on wires.

I never actually saw carno-on-a-stick in action until 2 weeks ago. It was even worse than I thought.

Pretty neat! Maybe they should open attraction themed to a movie before it comes out again!

I was there last month, had the "B" show running. I asked the cast member at the front what was up. She tiptoed around it saying he was "sleeping" or something to that effect. She did say that he was getting worked on though but they didn't know how long he would be out. I've ridden this probably 50 times and have never caught the B show. I was so confused when I looked to my right to see the big dino and instead we had the awkward small one to the left. Hopefully it's not too much longer till he's fixed.

I've never actually seen him because I always get scared and close my eyes! Every time I say, "This will be the time!" I go first week of December. How am I supposed to chicken out this time if he isn't there!?!

imo seeing people's legitimate horror and panic in the photo screens afterward is one of the most entertaining and fun aspects of the ride.

The Rators in the movie and ride Dinosaur are actually more true to real life. Velociraptor was not as big as they are in Jurassic Park. There actually is a species that big though called Utahraptor.
Additionally, when Michael Crichton was writing Jurassic Park, he was going off a dubious paper where a paleontologist suggested that Deinonychus, one of America's resident raptors, was basically just a larger velociraptor subspecies. By the time the book came out, that research was completely rejected.
