Dino debuts at DCA, then off to DAK

Laughingplace.com just posted a Disneyland update that features some great shots of the new completely wireless remote controlled animatronic dinosaur "Lucky." The pictures are wonderful, but they don't do Lucky justice, if you really want to see how amazing this dinosaur is, download both of the movies on the site. The dinosaur moves so fluidly and smoothly and has such a lifelike range of motion, it is really amazing.

Hopefully the Dino will only be in California for a few days so the imagineers can work out the final gliches and then they'll ship him down to the Animal Kingdom where he'll live for a nice long time. The way he moves so freely, this Dinosaur is going to completely revolutionize the theme park going experience as we know it. Walking through Dinoland with this giant lifelike dinosaur walking right next to you is really going to be amazing. And eventually, this dino could add an incredible level of reality to a new animal kingdom ride, seeing the dinosaurs walking around. Wow, it's all VERY exciting!

So Check it out!

WOW! That is sooooo cool! It looked so life like(well for a dinosaur). I was amazed by how freely his head and neck seemed to move! Very cool! Go Disney!!:sohappy:

I just took a look and it does look very cool! It sure does look out of place in the Hollywood Backlot though. It'll be sure to fit in perfectly at AK.

I like how the dinosaur is always in motion... it's always a good thing to do when emulating a living (once living) thing.

It will be an interesting addition to AK. I'd also like to see elephants and other animals like that, roaming the streets. Maybe make a parade out of it.

Looks really cool. Much better that the Trceratops from IoA. But I gotta admit that, when I read about a roaming dino AA, I pictured a dinosaur by itself. I suppose its power source is the cart it drags around? And the guy controls it with that purse he carries?

Yup. The huge cart he carries around is what is really moving the dinosaur and the animatronic simply emulates the movement by lifting his legs. I wasn't too impressed although the neck movements were very nice.

Is DAK the best location?

I know DAK has Dinoland USA, but Lucky the Dinosaur looks like it is right out of the Dinotopia books, from its job hauling flowers to the dress of the cast member leading him.

Henson and Hallmark have made Dinotopia TV movies in the past. I wonder if this storybook dinosaur would be at odds with the feeling of Dinoland (especially since there is already a real dinosaur wondering around the dino institute. I saw the video, so I know it's true!). :)

I think the Fountain Plaza or International Gateway area of Epcot or even walking around the World Showcase (perhaps the barely themed Outpost area) would be a better fit than Dinoland USA.

This sounds great and all but I don't see how the AK streets will be big enough for an Audio-Animatronic dinosaur to move around in when they really aren't big enough for the people in the park to begin with. I hope they decide to put the AA in a seperate area (Maybe if they set him up in the back area of Dino-Rama) so it won't clog the already cloged walkways any more.

or DinoRama?!?!?!? Change what's in the cart to carnival prizes

(I'm really biting my lip with this....I can't stand DinoRama...but...it could work there...or with Dino stuff from Chester and Hester's)

How many of these will they have. Will they keep with just the one and see how it works or will they have like 5 or 6 from the begining.

Adding these around the park will really enchace the feeling of each themed area

I HIGHLY commend Disney for this EXCELLENT advancement in Audio-Animatronics!

:sohappy:

Now they just have to make it 25 feet tall Carnitorus and bring back Traditional Animation, and I won't be mad at them... :brick:

It looks great!

Sure, it could be better.. the cart obviously moves it, and balances it... and, the guy next to it kinda ruins it, I think... I imagined a free-walking dinosaur that no one really pays attention to (like in Dinotopia), not something thats a walking show, with a croud gathered around... just to add to the atmosphere... if you get what I mean :)

Well, its an amazing advancement in Disney technology... I hope they keep going down that path!

well, for the millions and millions of dollars they spent on him, I suppose he has to be pushed as "a new attraction".

As sad as that is you're probably 100% right on that one. We'll probably see billboards soon

I was think the same thing. It looks like something from Dinotopia.

It looks a lot better then wat it looked like in the travel channel special behind the imagineers.

Well, I'm happy to see that Lucky has made his/her appearance in a park, but I'm disappointed to see that cart on the back of him/her... I guess I was expecting too much when I thought it would walk only with its feet...
