Dining with another family question?

some friends of ours from church just booked the same cruise we are booked on. they also have late dinner seating as we do. can we request to be seated with them? if so how? we are planning on early summer cruise. there would be a total of 9 people, 4 adults, 5 kids. we have never been on cruise before so didn't know if it could be done
