Dining: Uni vs WDW

Really? Please do a side by side comparison.
First Uni doesn't have V$As. And Disney wins in the variety of table service. But the 3 signature resort restaurants Uni does have I believe are better than the comparable Disney restaurants. I think Emeril's Tchoup Chop is better than 'Ohana. Palm Restaurant is better than Yatchman's. And BiCE doesn't really have a comparable restaurant, but it's better than Tutto Italia Risorante. I think Uni also wins in the mid level family restaurants.

In terms of signature restaurant, Its probably most fair to just compare Universal resort dining to the Swan and Dolphin. Palm vs. Shula's, Tchoup vs. Kimonos, BiCE vs. Il Mulino. (Uni doesn't have a signature seafood to compare to bluezoo)

Those are fair comparisons. I think the Uni offerings hold their own. And I think the ones you mentioned are better than the Disney ones I mentioned. But if we really want to throw a monkey wrench into the works. How would Bull and Bear at The Waldorf fit in because it is without a doubt the best steakhouse in Central Florida.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Both resorts have great AND terrible things in quick AND full service. The one category that I feel has a clear winner is THEMED food. Disney doesn't have anything that can compare to all the straight-from-the-source offerings of Harry Potter and Springfield.

In WDW's defense, this past year there has been a noticeable effort to expand their craft beer selections, even in the parks. Last time I was at High Octane in DHS, I was shocked at the number of choices.
Good to know! Looks like we will be making a trip to WDW when Epi VII is released :)- better start saving for passes now LOL!

For most people quick service meals is what they go for and you get what you pay for. Most is the same as other fast food places. If you want high quality meals leave the parks and go to the resorts. The only exception to this is Epcot's World Show Case. The counties have some very good sit down restaurants.

There are exceptions so this is a general rule.

I'm surprised at the split views on this topic. While you can get decent food just about anywhere at Uni, and the resorts in particular do have some very good restaurants, I think WDW beats Uni on this point by a wide margin. Better overall quality, better variety, more choices for special diets, more ethnic choices, better service, better quick-service options all over the parks and resorts, better snacking options, and better table service options as well. I think WDW actually has slightly lower pricing as well. Uni is much better than every other theme park resort, of course, but I don't think it comes close to Disney in this regard.

First off WDW has some really great dining to be had and encountered. From the Parks to the Resorts to even Down Town Disney. Uni has some very good food and some really nice atmosperes to eat in too. It's time to stop this WDW Vs Uni thing. Both parks are great and has their own Unique thing about them that make them fun and enjoyable. It would truly be sad if Orlando did not have both of them. I feel now both attractions are pushing each other to be better and that is a good thing.

First, thanks for all the good info!

Our first UNI trip is coming up in a few weeks and I would like to impose upon you to make QS and TS suggestions for us based on the following:

Some of our WDW favs are: Raglan Road, Nine Dragons, Yorkshire County Fish Shop, Le Cellier, Kona Cafe and Liberty Tree. I am sure I am forgetting something.

Also, we will be staying at the Portofino Bay Hotel.

Thanks!

The best dining on the parks (not Citywalk) they have is Mythos.

Most of their stuff is QS sludge. Their pizzas are terrible, the fried chicken merely passable, and the burgers are not even worth remembering...and, they don't even try. They serve it all cafeteria style.

They do have some decent QS options (like Blondie's sandwich shop...the dagwood, YUM!), but...on average, I think WDW wins for food offerings.

QS is what it is- burgers, pizza, chicken. What makes them better at WDW? I'd love to know where ya'll are having these great QS meals at WDW.

Obviously DIsney has far more fancy table service restaurants to choose from, but if we just look at standard theme park fast food - burgers, hot dogs, pizza, fried chicken, etc - I think Universal's is better.

They want to sell more of the more expensive food options. They could make great quality cheap burgers. It is not in their best interest to do so.

I'm not buying this.
Either that the parks are engaging in some kind of conspiracy to lower their food quality in order to somehow encourage more people to chose table service meals (but not all people, or even a majority) OR that the parks could offer a substantially better hamburger at no additional cost on the back end and simply chose not to.
