SciFi is good because you can just sit there and watch the films. When I go with a group, the conversations are usually minimal.

If you wouldn't mind a possible conversation, you can try Teppan Edo (you'll share a table with other groups).

Most restaurants have bars where they offer the restaurants full menu with the plus side being you usually can get a seat without an ADR's as well as get in and get out without taking too much time out of your touring schedule.
Here are some great TS places for solo or small party dining that you may like:

MK - Plaza Restaurant

Epcot - Rose and Crown Pub, Teppan Edo/Tokyo Dining, Tutto Gusto, Via Napoli

DHS - Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge, Tune in Lounge

DAK - Rainforest Café, Yak & Yeti (bar)

DS - Boathouse (bars), House of Blues (bar), Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar, Lava Lounge, Raglan Road, Splitsville (inside bar), T-Rex (bar)

Resorts - Big River Brewery (BWR), Beaches and Cream (BCR), BlueZoo Lounge (Dolphin), Cabana Bar & Beach Club (Dolphin), California Grill (CR), Cape Town Lounge (AKL next to Jiko), Crew's Cup (YCR), ESPN Club (BWR), Il Mulino Trattoria (Swan), Kimonos (Swan), Kona Island (Poly), Territory Lounge (WL), Trader Sam's (Poly), Wave Lounge (CR)

Don't forget the bar at 50 Prime Time in HS, full menu and friendly bar staff.
If your budget allows it I would recommend California Grill, nice bar with a view of the kitchen and great food. I have also eaten by myself at Be Our Guest, beautiful restaurant with lots to look at.

Don't feel concerned or strange about eating anywhere you would go with other people. This is your chance to eat where you want without worrying about other people's opinions! I have eaten alone at several places and was always treated very well by the staff. No other guests ever looked oddly at me but I was more likely to strike up a conversation with strangers than I would have been with friends/family. Have fun!

I would try Teppan Edo since tables seat 8, I think and you will be seated with other people. :cat:

This is exactly the type of situation that I WOULD'NT want. I dine solo quite frequently, and any of the WDW restaurants are great for solo diners. But the last thing I want to do is to barge in on someone else's party. I did the Biergarten once, and the family at whose table I was placed looked at me the entire meal as if I was gonna jump up at any second and start waving a blade around. Very uncomfortable!

While I usually dine with ADR's, I really like the concept of dining at a bar. This works really well at the California Grill, as long as you're not going up too close to MK fireworks time. Enjoy drinks, enjoy a terrific meal, and then go out on the balcony and watch the nightly fireworks. A great evening, and you don't have to book it 180 days in advance!

I've done Brown Derby, Chefs de France, BoG, Grand Floridian Café and several other TS restaurants solo. But I think @DisneyChik17's advice to ask to sit at the bar is a great idea.

I go solo every year and have dined at numerous places around WDW including Teppan and Biergarten. I had no issues any place I dined at.. I would eat where ever you want to eat. I don't care what other people think of me and am very comfortable with myself so I have no concerns dining solo or doing anything else by myself. All of that is just you getting inside your own head. There is no "good" place for solo diners IMO since for me everywhere is a good place.

Believe it or not, the best experience I ever had eating solo was at Akershus at the beginning of the month. Food to die for, the best Belle, Aurora, and Snow White I've ever seen (the best Cinderella I've ever seen was at 1900 Park Faire) and you don't have to share the deserts. A perfect meal.

Eat at the bars for WDW.... I would not do Teppan Edo alone... That's goofy.... I would not do Germany either.... Plenty of bars that offer full menus... IMHO

Got a chuckle out of your experience at the Biergarten. (I also smiled at @alissafalco 's post up ahead, about not choosing Teppan Edo, if you're dining solo.) I'd like to share my own experience about solo dining (in the late 90s) at (what I think was formerly known as) Teppanyaki Restaurant, before it was refubished around 2007, and the name changed to Teppan Edo.

At that time, it was often easy to walk up to a restaurant without a reservation (particularly at lunch), and they'd find you a spot. So I thought I'd try Teppanyaki, because similar types of Japanese steakhouses in my area, had the same communal seating with a mixture of couples, families, etc., around the horseshoe shaped grill.

So guess what? The hostess sat me at a table with 3 generations of the same family . . . and there I sat . . . in the middle . . . AWKWARD!! I was really uncomfortable as I felt I was invading some sort of multi-generational, family reunion. At least the chef entertained us and that helped. One of the guys at the table would ask me if he could pass the soy sauce or whatever over to me, and God bless him; he knew I was freaked out and he was trying to make conversation. Well, the food was very good, but I couldn't wait to bolt out of there once I paid the bill. Haven't returned since--even though it has a different name now! ;)

My last trip I was sat with a family of 7, parents and 3 adult children with 2 spouses. It was very entertaining for me. The Mom had never been to a Teppan place before and had never tried sushi. So they ordered a sushi plate(which comes with the sushi, side of wasabi and the pickled ginger). Well the whole time she was eating it she kept saying how much she loved the salmon and how it was the best salmon she ever had. So I look over and she is eating the pickled ginger the whole time thinking it was salmon. LOL They finally told her what it was. It was a fun bunch to sit with.

On solo trips I usually do best getting seated at the ESPN Club or at one of the resort 1TS credit restaurants such as the captain’s grille or the Grand Floridian café. Otherwise eating at the bar of one of the resort lounges, QS or just luck in getting in getting seated.
