Dining plan question

Hi.

I've recently booked for myself and my girlfriend to go to the Saratoga Springs resort for 2 weeks starting on the 10th of September. I've got the Dining plan included and was wondering if anyone could help me out with a question I have? If we go to a table service restaurant and my girlfriend uses the plan to pay for her meal, but I decide not to, as I want to pay for something not on the truncated dining plan menu, can we do this or do we both have to agree to use the plan, or not as the case may be? Obviously I'd rather not lose 2 credits if only one of us is using the plan and the other is paying cash. In other words do we both get separate allowances or are they both linked?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can do that. Your tickets are linked however, so for the two of you for two weeks you have a total of 28 dinners, 28 counters and 28 snacks.

One of you could in theory go out and spend all 28 snack credits on one day, leaving both of you with 0 for the rest of the trip. You could go out and have signature meals for the 14 days and use up all of your dinner credits.

You also only need one key card to pay for both of you at a meal, so you want to be clear that (in the case you presented) only she is using the plan.

You will also get a "receipt" showing what was used, so you can check your progress and also make sure you weren't credited for the meal.

Think of it as a pool for the two of you for your full trip, not a daily or individual allotment. Hope that helps.

You can totally do that, do separate checks and make sure you double check that they did not deduct your meal for the dining plan since both of your KTTW cards are hooked up to the same dining account.

Just to be clear... There is no different menu for Dining Plan vs out-of-pocket. The Dining Plan covers an entrée, a dessert and a non-alcoholic/non-speciality beverage, but you can order anything you want in addition to that and just pay for whatever 'extras' you order.

Thanks guys. We'll probably both eat using the plan at most times, but if there's something I fancy on the regular menu I know I can go for it now. I'd better keep an eye on my girlfriend though to make sure she doesn't eat 28 dole whips in a day. :)

Really? I was under the impression that there was a different menu for the dining plan where some of the more "expensive" items on the regular menu were left out. I don't know where I got that from. Anyway, thanks for the info.

The restaurants each have one adult menu only. It would be too complicated to keep track of. Many who pay OOP have complained of the "dumbing down" of the menus because of the Dining Plan, which helps debunk the different menu myth.

There are some menu items that are excluded from DDP, but they are few and far between. I don't have an example for you offhand.

The only exclusions are "add-ons" such as adding a Lobster Tail to a steak to make Surf & Turf and speciality drinks [usually have glow-cubes and/or commemorative glasses]. If something is listed as an entree, it's eligible for DDP.

There are no different menus for regular or dining plan. As far as I have ever known. Am I wrong? We have always ordered right from the same menu as everyone else............:veryconfu

You're right. No special DDP menus.
