Dining Plan Mug Question

Hi, we have a split stay coming up. First night is a one-night reservation at a Disney deluxe hotel and we have the Deluxe Dining Plan (not free dining - we are paying for it). We then have 4 nights offsite, then 4 nights back onsite but with no dining plan because we have several offsite dinners planned with friends so the Dining Plan makes no sense for those dates.

I know we will get a refillable mug on day 1 which I assume would be good for only that day (or into the next?). Since we will be around the Disney parks for a total of 9 days in there any way we can get that mug as a length-of-stay mug which I believe is 14 days? Maybe by paying the difference between the one day mug price and the length-of-stay mug price? Or do we have to buy a second mug later?

The mugs are only good at the Disney resorts and not the parks. So it would really only make sense to get them when your onsite stay starts.

Actually, if you purchase the "length of stay" option you are given 14 days from the day of purchase. Does not matter if you change resorts or not. We just did this last week, purchased the mugs at POR (one night there) and used them for our subsequent week at GF. On our last day at GF the sign on the machine said we still had 6 days remaining.

The mug you receive will be valid for your one night's stay. The 24 hour period begins when you first use the mug (so you could use it first on check out day and still have another day to go.) I don't know if you can "pay the difference" between one night and length of stay (which would be $9); purchasing a new mug for the remainder of your trip is $17.99. You cannot reuse an old mug. The RFID chip is coded at purchase and once the expiration date passes, your mug is done.

We had a length of stay mug purchase. But the wife noticed the mug expired in 14 days even though we were only staying for 8. Maybe some CM's don't ask and put in the maximum amount of days or it is just automatic 14 days so it is a simpler operation?

How Odd I will be there 15 days in Sept and I am re checking in for 1 day and getting a Ticket and they told me I could NOT get a dining Plan, DO I need a specific ticket?
