Dining Options w/ GF

Hello all,

The date where we can make ADR's is fast approaching(ok maybe not but I can't help myself) and I've been looking at the menus for a while trying to decide where to eat with my gf(first vacation together in 4 years).

Anyway I really want to make this special. We are both mainly carnivores but we both don't mind some pastas and she likes some salad's...but we tend to favor the meats.

She doesn't have as much of a liking for flavored meats as I do. However, she would probably still eat them

Some of my top choices so far are:

O'hana(dinner...maybe bfast)
Kona Cafe(Either dinner or lunch)
Le Cellier(probably dinner)

Now I haven't ever really eaten "fancy" at WDW. My family has always been on the cheap side and never splurged for anything besides the typical park burger. We use to do the O'hana bfast as kids but I'm not a big fan of Lilo and Stitch so not sure I find it as attractive as I use to.

One concern about the O'hana dinner is the family style. Is it odd to see just a couple in there? Anybody just go as a couple?

I am pretty sure we'll stick with Le Cellier because its exactly what both of us like.

Kona Cafe looks really good to me as I like flavored chicken, I haven't looked with her yet but I bet there is something there she would like.

Any other comments or suggestions? Do you guys think we should do maybe Chef Mickey's? I think we could have fun at a character meal and it would be a good photo-op between us.

Thanks for any facts/opinions you share!

You are too cute. "Family style" for Ohana's is in reference to how the food is served. You will see couples, singles, families, etc. eating there.

From allears.net: Family-style -- the server brings large bowls/plates/skillets of food that you serve yourself and pass around the table.

It is a set menu and includes a lot of meat, so I think you and your GF would like it. We've done the character breakfast there 3 times, but entirely for our kids and b/c we were staying at the Poly. For 2 adults, I would skip it and do Chef Mickey's instead.

Kona Cafe and Le Cellier are great choices! Have eaten at both and highly recommend both.

i would consider artist point. the food quality and presentation is the best we found at WDW. made flying fish look like CS.

imo AP is the best kept secrete at WDW.

Ohana is great if you like meats, and if she doesn't like seasoning just tell them that when you make the ADR. I went as a couple on my last trip and it wasn't odd at all. Like a PP said family style just means the way they serve the food, so they just proportion it for 2 and give you anything more you may need.

My DH and I have eaten at O'Hana's as a couple and we have also eaten there with the kids. Great food all around!

Another good choice is the Whispering Canyon Cafe in Wilderness Lodge....really good if you like BBQ.

I have heard rave reviewsabout Kona Cafe and look forward to eating there in Sept for our next anniversary trip.

Liberty Tree tavern in MK is our favorite character meal. It is served family style as well and the character interaction is fantastic. To me, Chef Mickey's was a little loud to go just as adults....kids loved it, though!

Thanks for those suggestions. I had heard LTT suggested before but never WCC. I'll have to check out there menu.

It surprised me how different Kona Cafe's lunch menu was vs. dinner. Dinner looks good to me...lunch...eh

Another question I forgot to include in my OP, how many meals do you think is too many? Like I said, I have never ate at a sit down place(except for 'ohana for the character b-fast and chef mickeys bfast). I don't want to feel like I constantly have "appointments" to make. We're going for 5 full days Dec 7-13. I was thinking 3 might be a good amount. What do you guys think?

EDIT: BTW we're staying at the Poly so 'Ohana and Kona might be very easy to get to as long as we're in EPCOT or MK those days.

Definitely recommend Kona Cafe, it is one of my very favorites at WDW.

I do think you would enjoy Chef Mickey's and I am pretty sure for dinner they have a carving station. The atmosphere and location are great.

In fact, we are eating at both of these locations on our next trip.

Boma or Jiko at the AKL are also good choices.

We usually plan one sit-down meal per day for us. It gives us some sort of a rest every day.

In regards to feeling like you have "appointments", we always make ADR's in advance, but have on occasion cancelled after deciding we didn't want/couldn't make it.

We usually do sit down for every dinner, although for you, 3-4 would probably be fine.

Just to confuse you more, if you like buffets, Liberty Tree Tavern in MK is nice. We tend to like Yachtsman's Steakhouse over Le Cellier for steaks...plus it is easier to get a ressie. One of our favorites is also Artist Point at WL and Whispering Canyon is a fun option if you want plenty to eat and not much quiet.

One good resource for doing your comparisions is as follows:

Peruse the menu's and also get reviews. Reviews can be had on this site as well.
