Dining for Foodies :)

Hi guys,
I've been to WDW a few times, however, my hubby has never been. We are planning a trip for our 5 year Anniversary in January 2014 for 7 days..... LOL I know, planning WAY ahead. However, I want to make sure the whole trip is magical for him, so I'm doing lots of homework in the meantime.

I haven't been to WDW since 2002, so feel a bit out of the loop and would love some opinions on great places to eat. Both of us are foodies, not snobby about it by any means, but always looking for a good food experience to top off a great time. He's a big fan of seafood and fish, healthy foods, anything Japanese, wild game, and prefers to stay away from anything really fried.

What would you guys recommend? :) We'd like to avoid anything with TONS of kids (Obviously, it's WDW, so they'll be there, but things like Character Dining are probably going to be a no go because of the larger number of kids that will usually be there.) or overly crowded settings. Having trouble picking breakfast and QS spots. If you see anything on the list which you've visited with bad results, let me know as well.

Thank you guys all for your input!!!

Breakfast choices I'm looking at thus far :
Boma - Heard the goat cheese eggs are great!
The Wave - Lots of healthy choices on the breakfast menu

DS:
Victoria & Albert's - Heard it was really romantic and low on the number of kids there.
Jiko - We love curry
Be Our Guest - He loves Beauty and the Beast, so figured we should visit.
Kimonos - Sushi!!!
Sanaa - Tandoori Oven yumminess
Via Napoli - Heard great reviews about the pizza
Yak & Yeti - Heard good reviews on their chinese/indian food
Artist Point - Game and seafood
Flying Fish Cafe - Seafood
Fulton's Crab House - More Seafood
Narcoossee's - Fish and Lobster
Blue Zoo - Heard it was awesome
California Grill - Heard it has good sushi

Hi ValNTine, I usually stay at AKL so I have eaten at all the restauants there, including Sanaa at Kidani Village. The different curry dishes there are outstanding. You must also try the bread service, different kinds of dough, with dipping sauces. Also get there early so you have time to walk around the resort and view the animals. If you like goat cheese you have to go over to Boma for breakfast and get them to make you a cooked to order omlette with goat cheese-its outstanding. Jiko is in a class by itself, one of the best restaurants on property. There curries are great as is there Filet with mac & cheese. The salmon over at Artist Point is out of this World. Also a great atmosphere, service and outstanding food is The Yachtsman at The Yacht Club.

Thank you so much, Petey!!! I mentioned the bread service to my hubby, and he got all starry eyed. LOL Awesome recommendation!

I LOVE goat cheese, so will definitely add Boma's cook to order omelet to my list. I get the feeling there are going to be too many delicious restaurants to visit in our short time there!!! hahahaha

Get to Boma early. We ate there on Friday night at 9pm - with a reservation and it was still ridiculous! We did the Wanyama Safari on Wednesday, which includes a meal at Jiko (family style with the others who went on the safari) and it was AMAZING. Sanaa has THE BEST butter chicken. I only say this because we never eat in the resorts because we always hit WDW during the Wine and Food Fest and do our eating there...but it was raining during our stay, AND we were amazed by the balcony scenes almost too much to leave our room at AKL Jambo House.

Upon reading your intro, the first thing that came to mind is Artist Point. Seeing as how you have it on your list already, I'm not sure I can give you a better suggestion. You also already have Flying Fish, Kimonos and bluezoo on tap, so I feel you're pretty well covered as far as my suggestions go.

The only restaurant I can think of that you don't have already worth mentioning is Kouzzina. It's great for both breakfast and dinner, so if you have the space in either meal slot, it's worthy of consideration. The Mediterranean cuisine should be right up your husband's alley. I've had the whole fish for dinner once before, and I thought it was light, flavorful and a surprisingly delicious type of fish (it was a variety of snapper that I've never heard of before, and I can't remember what it was called).

Hehehe... Great!!! I was thinking of adding it to our Breakfast options, so now I definitely will make sure to do so. :D Of course, once hubby hears there is a whole fish option, he may end up wanting to visit it for dinner as well. LOL I am running out of meal times for all of these great food options!!!

Lisa, thanks for the comment about the early booking Will definitely make sure to do so!

Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Quick Service:
Columbia House is nice for a QS, not so many kids, upstairs is quiet, Lobster Roll, yum. Earl of Sandwich in DTD is busy but great, line looks bad but moves quickly. Main Street Bakery has excellent sandwiches. Wolfgang Puck at DTD. FlameTree at AK (outside seating is lovely.) Not a fan of any food at DHS, but in a pinch Star Rolls for a sandwich. Boardwalk bakery also has great sandwiches. Season's in Future World has real great food for QS however you will deal with families, but good, full meals for a QS. One of my favorites is Yorkshire at Britain/Epcot, Fish and Chips. Yes they are fried, but if he is going to cheat, these little fishes are worth it.
As you walk around the World Showcase in that area, they just call to you.

You have picked the best of the best for your sit downs, can't really go wrong. I agree with adding Yachtmen, and my only, I am not a fan is Fultons. I've been there a few times and it is hit or miss and the hit isn't that big of a hit.

Wave also has a nice breakfast.

AP has two kinds of salmon. When it is in season, they get Copper River salmon. Copper River salmon is in season for about a month starting in mid May. If you are lucky enough to be at AP when they have it, get it - it is one of the handfull of places you are going to find it in FL (fish don't fly cross country cheaply). Other times of the year the salmon is good, but other items on the menu are just as good. Mid May to late June, unless you do not like salmon, the only thing on the menu that makes sense to order is the salmon.

You have a lot of great choices there. I find that if I book a signature restaurant at 8 pm or later, the meal is fairly child free.

LOL Thank you all so much for your input!!! :D Love all of the information. I've added a few more to my list, and made sure to definitely add Yachtman to the list. I know we've got a ways to go until we head out there, but we're just so excited!

I made sure to go and read through some of the other threads about food as well. I know the more I read, the more restaurants I'll be trying to fit in! hahaha

I would highly recommend Jiko, California Grill and Artist's Point. I'm a huge foodie as well and these three are my favorite of all the signatures (I've been to all but Victoria & Alberts, Yachtsman and Flying Fish). Each has their own unique style and they have truly unique flavors to their dishes. I also really enjoy Ohana as well as Kouzzina which aren't signatures but are very, very good and definitely worthy of a try!
