Dilemma

I am really confused about what we should do.
We (myself, DH and DS8) have always gone to WDW the last week of January and never had an issue, crowds are almost non-existent and the weather is perfect. Here is my dilemma-
Last trip we took my younger sister(19) with us. It was by far the best trip we have taken. We all had more fun, we had four people so nobody really got left out on rides, it was overall just a really good trip. However, my sister is in the Army and will not be back until around Valentine's day. So I'm looking for help, she says she would be ok if we went without her in January or should I wait til she's back in February? Also when in February would be the best time to go??
I have heard horror stories about going when Mardi Gras is going on so I really would like to avoid that.

My family and I have never been to WDW in January. We do go every year in February. While the parks are not very crowded in January, the weather can be quite cool. February's weather (especially late February) tends to be warmer. in fact, last February, we swam every day in the resort pool. We have gone to WDW during Mardi Gras and the parks were packed with people from New Orleans. It seemed the entire state was there. The other weeks in February the park crowds are quite manageable. If the weather is important to you, I would recommend going towards late Feb right after Mardi Gras. I hope this helps.

That is a tough decision. If it were me, I would wait for her based on the enjoyment everyone had. This is for two reasons: to allow for 4 people as you said and that she is serving the country. I could deal with a little more crowds.

BigRedDad has said it best...to wait for her because she is serving our country.

If it were me and my sister...I would not tell her anything about it and just wait and surprise her with the trip. Pay for it yourself and have her spending money for her...I am sure she would pay you back! Nothing is too good for someone keeping us free, even if it is family!

You should avoid President's week, but the earlier in February you go, the lower the crowds will be.

I agree. We've been to the World around President's day and it was packed. Check the room rates though. They used to go up right around Feb. 15 because of President's Day and the start of Spring Breaks.

Yeah, after being pretty much spoiled by the last week of January, President's day terrifies me :lookaroun but since we were only told she should be back "on or around Valentine's day" we can't really schedule it before the 14th. I just really can't imagine going without her...

I think I would wait for her and go all together. We have been to WDW many times in Florida and love it. Take a nice sweatshirt and jeans and your good to go. We alternate each year...one year January, one year February etc. Love both months there.

Can I ask what dates in February you go? And how are the crowds?

It is crowded for President's weekend, but pretty much just for the weekend-crowds die down again after Monday. In January you also need to watch out for MLK b-day, but once again just a weekend thing. Next year Ash Wednesday is Feb 22, so Mardi Gras will bre combined with President's weekend.

I have seen many people on the boards be concerned about President's Day week and I'm not exactly sure why. We went this past February during that week, Saturday through Saturday, and had a great time. On Sunday and Friday we got into MK at rope drop, came out @ noon for naps (I have boys ages 4 and 2), went back in around 3 and still got 90% of the park done without any problems. We even road several rides more than once and yes we, or at least me, did all of the mountains. Sunday was the most crowded part of the week in MK, but you also had EMH hours until 3 am. I tend to think of myself as hard core and even I couldn't last till then. Moral of the story, President's Week is a busier time of year, but the longest line you will have is only 15 minutes at most. Plan a little in advance and go have a great time. I would do President's Week again in a heartbeat. :)
