My Cams are alil out of your price range, but if you are ever looking to go into professional digital photography you should check em out.

All of the Disney Pics in my Album (Link in Sig) Were taken using a Sony DSC-F717 Cam (5 MP) which now retails for $699. I just bought a new Sony DSC-F828, Brand new 8mp Model...

They both produce excellent quality pictures

eh.... if I'm spending a grand on a camera, I'll take the Canon 300D Digital Rebel. While I like the Sony 717 and 828... they're still Point and Shoot digital cameras... for a true professional digital, you have to get at least a Digital SLR...

Well, unless I wanted to make a huge investment in new Memory Cards and batteries, I had to stick with a Sony, the Rebel was also one of the cams I was looking at, but I just had way too many batteries and memory sticks for the Sony to switch

Just a quick thought on digital and nighttime photography - They dont mix well. Your milage may vary.

As with all things photography, odds are night shots wont always come out worth a darn with things on the auto settings. Make sure you can flip to a manual mode where you can play with shutter speed, apature, etc to get what you want.

As for advice, just get one REALLY BIG memory card/memory stick/whatever. (And D/L in the hotel room nightly)

Ive met too many collegues who have dropped cards and cant ever find them again.

Dont forget the cheapy tripod....

Whatever you do don't just jump in and buy one without researching it online. I find DPreview.com most useful. I've been doing a lot of reading on this site in preperation of buying my first digital camera in the spring.

http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/olympus/c750uz-review/index.shtml is where you can find a good review of it.

It's holding my interest mostly for the 10X optical zoom lens built in, as well as the hot shoe port for an external flash which will allow for fantastic night shots when added. It's a bit more, but I think it's worth it for it's features. Just figured I'd add my $.02

I just got the Olympus C-750 for Christmas. So far I am ver impressed, but have not had time to test all the features out yet. I plan on taking it with me next month when I start the college program at WDW. I can post sample pictures from it and can also do it when I am at WDW.

I have the Canon s30 (no longer available)....I shoot at the 1024 x 768 resolution set at SUPERFINE. I have three 256mb flash cards, each gives me over 500 pictures at this resolution for well over 1500 pictures. I have no problem making 8X10 prints...the night shots come out fairly well but I sometimes set the ISO to 800 and that sometimes gives me grainy pix...ya have to play with them a little before ya know what works for you.

3 megapixels is plenty of camera for me and probably for most amateurs. You can get 4 megapixels these days for the same price I paid for 3.

Actually 1024x768 is not even 1 megapixel. You may want to bump your camera up another level to 2mp or 3mp. Your prints will have alot more detail and wont look as soft. (SUPERFINE is the jpg compression. It means the file isnt as compressed. I bet with 3megapixel setting and FINE or STANDARD youll fit as many photos per card, and youll have more pixels of detail)

Jpeg compression has more to do with pixelation as opposed to sharpness. I notice very little difference between an uncompressed JPEG and a normal JPEG.

Sharpness has more to do with the lens and lens manufacturer as well as depth of field. I mean i run into photos being soft when i use a tameron lens at a low f-stop versus a nikon one. The aftermarket stuff just isnt as sharp.

.... PS - Dont revive 2 year old threads.
