DIfference in Dining plans for a first timer...

Hi everyone!

We have included a dining plan in our trip but I think it is the Disney Dining Plan and not the Deluxe Dining Plan(waiting for my TA to confirm that for me) but I was wondering, with a family of four(husband, myself, 17yr old son, 13yr old niece) if Disney Dining Plan is sufficient for the week or if we should upgrade to the Deluxe. We are willing to go with a room with less of a view(either Poly, WL or CR) in order to eat well and know that it is included (beyond alcohol and tips etc) in the price without really needing to think about it. Now the Deluxe is about $1300 more but covers 3 meals, 2 snack per day and I am just wondering if that would justify a higher dining plan because I am not sure if the 4 of us(none with big appetites, not even the teenage boy GASP! LOL) would spend $1300 more in dining if we only went with the Disney Dining and not the Deluxe. Clear as mud? Please forgive me, migraine meds are kicking in. LOL

My husband and I are slobs...we live to eat...and many times have 2 dinners at home lol...true story...anywho...the DDP is plenty of food even for us heffers. Plus...you don't want to waste 4+ hours on table service meals each day right? For us one a day is perfect...hope that helps!!

The character meals and Ohana/hoop dee do take up two table service credits, just a FYI. And make sure you book those well ahead of time.

We usually get the dining plan, and I've yet to be hungry when I'm there :) We actually usually have a bunch of snacks left over the last day.
Ohana actually only takes one credit. Its a great character breakfast for this reason and the dinner is not that bad either. :) Not sure on Hoop Dee Do as we have never eaten there.

I don't understand the value in the QS plan at all. Why not just eat QS the whole time? How does the QS DP save money for anyone?
I agree the full dining plan is much better
It can be frustrating having to book all the table service restaurants in advance but I think totally worth it.
Just need to plan a restaurant near to where you will be that day so it is not a hassle
Surely we all go with a basic plan of what you are doing each day to get the most out of your vacation. You just need to make it 180 days in advance :)

Thanks everyone! We are probably doing one or two table service and then the rest will be seat of our pants. LOL Character breakfast for certain even though our son is going to be 17 and our niece is 13, it is something we have always done in DL.

the regular dining plan is great! Its a good amount of food, but i dont think t0o much! depending on when you are going on your trip, Epcot has the flower and garden festival and the food and wine festival that have tons of kiosks with food, that all count as snack credits, so we try to save a few extra snacks for that park.

do you have a list of restaurants you want to eat at? I would recommend Ohana dinner and Chef Mickeys dinner.

sidenote: We actually like to watch the MK fireworks from Contemporary resort. We have dinner at Chef Mickeys and then go out onto the patio near the shops and watch. They pipe in the music, you can see everything, and you dont have to deal with the crowds!
