Did you see that UNIVERSAL commercial?!?!?

What the heck is with this coaster thing? EVERYONE on this site says "Universal has no rides for everyone, it's just coasters."

There are 3 coasters at IOA (4 if you count DD as two instead of one).

There are 2 coasters at USF.

There are 3 coasters at MK alone.

No offense meant and I'm certainly not the authority. I've lived here 5 years, been to Universal only 4-5 times. Been to Disney about... oh crap, I can't even count that high. There's just a noticable difference between the coasters at Universal and Disney. My 65-year-old Mum will go on Space Mountain but can't stomach the Mummy or the Hulk... that's all I'm saying.

When I want to be on the verge of vomiting and walking around with a "Detroit lean" all day, then Universal is the ticket.

Has she tried going on Mummy? Personally I think Space Mountain is a bit more intense then the coaster section of Mummy.

James... here is the thing. Most people don't think of Space Mountain and Big Thunder as "Roller Coasters". To most people, they are just "rides". They think that, because they don't look like roller coasters. You look at them and you see a mountain and a building. IOA on the other hand, has a giant steel snake sitting to the left of its entrance. It's all about apperance and marketing. Uni markets the coasters because it's what Disney DOESN'T market... as a result people tend to think that that is all they have.

universal can do what ever it wants to try and attract customers. the fact is unless hell freezes over, disney will always be the more popular of the two. they are just trying to "steal" customers away. not saying i don't like universal, my mom and i went on a five day trip back in 2004 and we enjoyed ourselves. its also not something you can spend your entire vacation doing. we usually had the parks covered by 1 in the afternoon and had nothing to do afterwards =P

All marketing is "stealing customers." Disney is "stealing customers" from Las Vegas by marketing themselves as an all-inclusive resort. It's capitolism at work... that's why I get so confused when people get so bent out of shape over Universal's marketing. Disney goes a different route to the same end.

While Universal can be done in a day, that's one of the things that I prefer over Disney. I go on vacation to relax... and I can't do that at Disney because there is so much that I feel I HAVE to do. I can spend a week at Universal, ride about three rides a day, people-watch the rest of the day and just relax and enjoy my time off. Some people can't do that... I can.

Heading for the great escape.
Didnt someone post figures on here the other day that showed Universal Orlando as the top attraction world wide after Disney, yes Id say they should close the parks now, thats a disaster.

blah blah universal bad disney so amzing . its the same thing over and over again anytime universal brings something new out its always a copy people say. Grow up they are to parks that both appeal to people stop of this childish miss hes copying me scene. But you want to know what annoys me most how animal kingdom is just a a complete rip off, of busch gardens :p

Yet these people, the ones that moan and complain about how bad Universal is and how it stinks, are they very ones that whine about people "not getting Disney".

No irony there...

ok ok i see USF and WDW as to different things entirely.

Universal now is trying to appeal to a more mid-aged crowd. teens to not to old adults. it's more of a thrill park.

on travel channel's top 10 thrill parks universal came in at #2, behind six flags magic mountain. disney not on the list

on travel channel's top 10 parks for familys w/ kids MK was #1 however none of the 3 other parks were on the list.

this is a list of top attended theme parks as to teh 2003 estimated attendence

1.The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Fla., 14 million, flat.
2 Disneyland, Anaheim, Calif., 12.7 million, flat.
3 Epcot at Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Fla., 8.6 million, up 4 percent.
4 Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Fla., 7.8 million, down 2 percent.
5 Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Fla., 7.3 million, flat.
6 Universal Studios at Universal Orlando, 6.8 million, flat.
7 Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando, 6 million, flat.
8 Disney's California Adventures, Anaheim, Calif., 5.3 million, up 13 percent.
9 SeaWorld Florida, Orlando, Fla., 5.2 million, up 4 percent.
10Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal City, Calif., 4.5 million, down 12 percent.

wdw has universal beaten flat out. no doubt

but i do want to say this, being a WDW and USF fan. i enjoy both parks very very much. i enjoy goin to disney and hopping over to USF for an evening. (i have ap's to both) and HHN is the craziest s**t there is. lol. but the way i see it wdw is appealing to families. where as universal is now appealing to teens and young adults, with the clubs and thrill rides. but that's just the way i see it.

I have read posts on this forum for several months and this is my first post. I understand this is a Disney related site and it is great. My family loves Disney we have been at least once a year for 10 years. We are also huge Universal fans my 11 yo son prefers Universal now, bigger thrill rides. My 3yo son is still Disney all the way. My question is why is it so hard for people to like both? Universal is not some carnival attraction it is a quality park. Just because it is not Disney does not mean it sucks:brick:
Welcome to the boards. Your insight is a great example of what some people who sit and "hate" on Universal fail to realize about the WDW/Universal relationship. Families have differing tastes among family members. They don't realize that by designing for "everyone", you actually end up excluding certain members. Your son is the type of kid the ad is targeting, and as you can attest they aren't making it up that some kids prefer Universal and it's "edgier" experience.

I actually know families similar to yours where the teenaged members stay would rather stay with friends at home instead of going to WDW. Yes, boggles my mind, but it happens all the time.

That's what keeps Universal afloat. They do have two very nice parks over there. I can't wrap my mind around those haters who don't seem to have ever actually been to the park - like those people who insist there is no theming at Universal, or that the theming sucks, or even dare to put it on the level of Six Flags. Um, the New York street sets at USF are amazing - and even though MGM is my favorite park, even I have to admit they put the street sets there to absolute shame. Compare "MIB" at USF to "Buzz Lightyear"; Disney doesn't ALWAYS do it better.

You honestly can love both parks. Disney is home, Disney is magic to me. Universal is a fun adventure with some amazing experiences (from T2 to Jaws to Spiderman to Jurrasic Park), and makes me feel just as much in another world as Disney does. It just does it differently. I often fantasize about what it would be like if Disney took that magic and made it a bit edgier in places; but they don't do that, and that's why there is a place Universal.

I tell ya, they might loose the fringe extreme religious types, but if they ever brought a Casino to WDW they'd have to expand Orlando International just to handle the extra traffic.

LOL.

i'm 16 and have never, and probably will never pass up a trip to WDW w/ my family (excluding the time my family went to mnsshp, and i went to hhn w/ a big group of ppl)

The ignorance and bile in this thread is so thick, you'd need a chainsaw to cut through it.

Isn't everything that USF does a rip off. I mean Disney in Cali, universal opens theme park in Cali.

This is my favorite part. I mean, nevermind the fact that Universal Studios Hollywood has been a tourist attraction since 1915, when Walt Disney was still a kid.

It's like comparing apples to oranges and then getting upset that it can't be done!

Why can't all the fruits just get along?
