I joined DVC in 1999 and visit WDW every year. We went to Universal in 2002. Had a great time. Then the Mummy opened and went back again in December 2004. Stayed on-site this time and had an awesome time. I am so glad Universal is in Orlando it gives us additional options.

People on some Universal forums are saying that ROE is still much better then 360.

I like 360 more but I've never been an ROE fan....

I was at Universal Studios the night of 7/29 and was actually able to see a preview ("dress rehearsal") of the new show. It was pretty good actually - The images were not only projected on the globes, but all around the lagoon (on buildings) - It was kind of cool. In addition - they did have fireworks - Nothing too extravagent, but decent for Universal. Also - I really liked the wide range of movies the show covered - It hit not only the old films, but newer films as well. Anyway - it really isn't anything like Illuminations - That was my first thought too when I saw the concept - BUT - it is completely different.

People like to jump into conclusion before they actually see it. Especially when they are so denfensive and having endless hostility towards anything related to it. The resluts are they lost sence of humor or the tolerance over other things. That's why they are called "fans".

Universal can be fun. I like their thrill rides. Never been on Mummy though.

But from what I've read, 360's elements are taken from Disney and then altered a little. Projection on a sphere is just a detail.

Oh and the theory that Disney copied the idea for a log/flume ride doesn't hold water. Rides have genres, just like films. A log/flume is a genre of ride.

According to your logic, the globe shoud not be the elements taken from Disney. I see no reason why Globe shouldn't be a genre. They are compelelty two different apporach of using LED and projection. The quality of the film using projection is so much better than LED. You called that taken fom Disney???? Every fair tales in Disney is copied from Eroupe. How about that?

Anytime something is successful there will be others that mimic or copy it. Think about every single thing ever invented or thought of by a person or company and you will find another that has made the same, or nearly the same thing. ie Coke and Pepsi, Apple and IBM, etc...

Who cares if Universal takes ideas from WDW or vice versa. Universal appeals to people that WDW may not and that is who they are targeting. Thus the princess and pixie dust commercials. Nothing is ever going to appeal to everyone and this is something all successful companies recognize.

Ok, I admit, we're Disney-holics here in our house. However, why is it that whenever we're with a group of people, there always starts a conversation about people going down to Florida and, :lookaroun get this...they always say that they've made plans to go to Universal b/c Disney is (1) just for little kids :brick: and (2) don't have enough to keep teenagers and older kids or young adults happy?:hammer: I just don't understand!

Oh, and there was a newspaper article recently in the Chicago Tribune (I think) or perhaps the Sun Times, about how Six Flags Great America is trying to be more "Disney-like." They've added an evening parade and fireworks show and are trying to bring in more "family-oriented" attractions and shows to regain their attendance. I got new for you. We thought we would check it out and went on June 30th. Not only did the price of admission go up $10.00 per person but the whole time we were there, my husband and I kept saying, "We're so spoiled by Disney.":D

Disney is #1 and everyone just wants to copy now!:p

For those who feel angered about Universal's marketing campaign, take comfort in knowing their marketing campaigns haven't been working anyway: USF and IOA dropped 15% in attendance last year, as Disney increased, and Sea World stayed flat. In fact, Sea World is coming close to eclisping IOA as it is.

. Universal 360 is not a ripp off of illuminations. Illuminations uses LED on the globe, but Universal 360 is using projections onto the globe. And everything else in the show is different. I guess Disney fans is notorious of being ignorant, narrow minded and defensive of everything except Disney. Sigh..... Oh by the way, I'm not sure if anyone posed anything about this, but did you see Magic Kingdom? It completely is a rip off of Tivoli Garden.

You really think they had a chance to even increase with the only new attraction being Fear Factor Live and Disney stuffing the 50th down everyone's throats?

And Tivoli is a much better park :lookaroun
You know... for a amusement park built in the middle of a centuries old city before Walt Disney was even born... Tivoli is an amazing park. They have this butt kicking roller-coaster, themed like a run-away mine train, that was built in the 1920's!

I need to go back to Copehagen.

Don't understand? Cause still lots of people think Disney is boring and cheesy to death and at least Universal has some mega coaster to do.

I went there last summer, loved it....Dæmonen was better than Kraken and they have an awesome Hans Christian Andersen dark ride which features topless mermaids. :lookaroun Rutschebanen (coaster you're talking about) was also cool because of the ride operator on the train.

The theming was excellent too, by far one of the most beautiful parks I've ever been to.

I'm sure Universal has its attractions (we've been there once or twice before) but I was referring to Six Flags GA trying to be like Disney or so the article I had referenced before had stated. Inasmuch as I haven't been to IOA (my son is only 7 and isn't tall enough for most of those rides), I'm sure there are thrills (and some to give a person chills) for teenagers/young adults but FYI, there aren't just families at Disneyworld, there are also newlyweds and couples (among others of course) that come. My point was that it's not just a kids' park.
