Did you ride on the first day or before?

I rode Star Tours in late 1989 when it was in it's testing phase. We rode it like four times and didn't have to get off the ride at all.

Of course...several weeks later Lucas and crew were there to officially open the ride. Bummer...I would have liked to have seen those guys. :hammer:

Needless to say, the ride broke down while we were in line, but I was a soldier and stuck with it.

Slightly off-topic--TT was open two years before we got to ride it, because it was always down. On our third trip after it had opened, when we still couldn't get on, we were given a pass by the super greeter at Spaceship Earth to go to the front of the line as soon as it was back up again. That was a pretty cool way to get to ride it.

We went in 1996 and 1998 as a family and everything was built (from what we could see) for TT and they always told us it was going to be opening soon. They said that in 1996, needless to say, we go in 98 and it STILL wasn't open. You'd think that after all those years of "opening" that everything would have been fixed. I've never experienced TT breaking down when I've been on it, thankfully. At least when I went in 2001 it was finally open and I love the ride. I'm hoping to do it more than once this week!

Actually, it's pretty cool to be on TT when it breaks down. I've gotten stuck on TT when it was going around the outside loop. We were sideways for about 5 minutes which was cool. Then after we got off we got to ride again with NO wait!! :sohappy:

Has anyone here ridden a ride on the first day it was open? Or maybe you test rode? If so post here...It's a pretty cool memory in my opinion.

My family and I rode the Aladin Magic Carpet Ride the day it opened...and only by chance...we were heading for a diner show and saw it was open...so we just jumped in line. Don't you just love when that happens? It's was a great ride...though I wasn't fond of when the carpet rocks back and forth...LOL!
DCA:. TOT (opening day)
WDW: TT (test drive)
WDW: M:S (sand bag & opening day)
WDW: DAK (opening day)

I never saw this, but I read that it ran for several months prior to "Tarzan Rocks"

It was where Tarzan Rocks is now. From what I can recall, I liked the old show better. More for kids though but a really good adaptation of the Jungle Book. They had a child star and there was a trampoline on the stage. The kid was an awesome performer.

Well this is the opposite of the thread but I was the LAST person to ride JII before the rehab that is current.I thought that was pretty cool! However, I was not happy that they closed it down but I felt special to be the last person!

For age of the attraction, I have everyone so far beat (unless I missed something while reading the posts).

I was there when PoTC opened. It was still when you used individual tickets for the attractions. They were lettting people ride for free. I am not sure how my parents heard about it, some CM told them. We rode many times in a row with no lines as nobody really knew where it was because it it tucked in so deep. It was night time which made it even cooler to do. :)

We rode M:S the day before it opened. If I remember the story correctly, we rode Splash Mountain early as well. We just kept getting off and on. My mom called us the ginnea (sp?) pigs.

I agree and that was what made it so cool. I still think just walking in and getting hit with the breezes that flow through as you go through the cool add so much to the creepiness. It is still one of my favorites in all the "World".

I rode Mission: Space during test & adjust in late June of 2003. I heard of the testing on these boards and drove down to Orlando, stayed with friends who live in town, and took them to Epcot with me for it. I also rode It's a Small World in 1971 when it wasn't compleatly finished (I thought that I had wasted a ride ticket, but now the memory is very special.

Heh..i test rode a few back when i used to work in orlando ;)

It was always fun..especially those little glitches that make the ride quite uncomfy :)

I test rode Test Track, Rock'n Roller Coaster, Khali River Rapids, Millennium Village as a whole; saw Illuminations RoE on the first night it showed. Rode Horizons before it closed, on the last night, and JIYI on the first days too.

I can´t remember more, but I am sure there were others because I worked there pre Millennium Celebration so everything was going on! ;)
