Did Mr. Toad really have to die?

That's because they do more with the Pooh characters. If they did more with Toad he would not have been forgotten.

Stuffed bear, rabbit, donkey, kangaroos > toad, weasels, mole and badger

Face it, the plush weasel was never going to be a big seller and nobody was brave enough to pick up the toad for fear he'd tinkle on your hand.

Badger popularity? Exhibit A for the defense: Friar Tuck. . . the character almost nobody wants to have a picture made with!

I love(d) the cheesiness of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and always made a point to ride it . . .and it ALWAYS had a 15 minute queue or longer whenever I visited, but plywood cutouts and day-glo paint with black lights made Toad an inferior product that needed to be replaced. It saddens me to admit that. :(

If I'd been the guy presented with the choice of replacing it with new AA toads, weasels, badgers and devils or with Pooh friends, it would have been a no-brainer decision for the bear with very little brain. :D

I'm surprised Mr. Toad didn't make it to the other parks outside of the U.S..

I think it's one of those rides where the backstory isn't that important because by the time the ride is over, you KNOW the story. Advertising it is more difficult though.

I also think that if Disney decided they wanted to "feature" one of their classic attractions on the park maps, like every few months, they would get more guests through those attractions.

Well, Snow white's scary adventures hardly draws huge lines. Its probably one of the least attended dark rides in FL. Should that one be replaced too? I mean, I think they could have kept toad and built pooh much later where the playground is now. I think the way WDW's attendance has gone up in the past few years, you could have expected the lines to be much longer at toad than what they were the last few years of its life. I think that the two could have comfortably existed together in FL, and I think its kinda sad that they arent.

Yes, I think we could replace Snow White. Especially if we get the proposed Snow White mine car coaster. It is showing its age and was never a great success. The Imagineers have even tweaked it over the years to try to make it more interesting, but I wouldn't call it a must-do on many people's lists. I like it very much, but a newer, more up-to-date dark ride might do better in that space and relieve Fantasyland attractions a bit.

Even Disney know things would have to change. It was time, and maybe time for Snow White as well.

Plus they have both rides in DL which happens to be a smaller park they could have put pooh where the playground is and still had room for another attraction back there.

I do not need to see a new ride every year but something should go where 20k was. It just frustrates me to no end to see so much wasted space in the MK.

I miss 20k. I only rode it once in '76 when I was 10 but it and SM were 2 of my fondest memories. I remember telling MY kids about it and then took them there and it was gone.

At DL Pooh replaced the Country Bears. If WDW got rid of them the poor creatures would have no other source of income.
:ROFLOL:

There is a great passage at the beginning of the Unofficial Guide to Disneyland about this....

Disney is $3 billion in the red because the insurance won't pay for the cosmetic surgery all the characters had and they cal the Bears to fix it.

They say they will never get rid of them because they know where all the bodies are buried

(It's funnier when you read it.....I'd get a copy!):)

Go to your local mall and ask 20 kids who Mr. Toad is and who Pooh is. Your results will show you why Pooh killed Mr. Toad.

I never thought of it that way, but wow...Pooh IS a murderer. :(

By the way, where's Mr. Toad's "resting place" at the HM? I always forget to look for it when I'm strolling through the graveyard. :brick:

In the left rear of the pet cemetery. The pet cemetery is to the left just before the exit gates and just pass the hearse (which would be on your right)

In DLP there is a Toad Hall restaurant, and that makes sense since people in Europe know who the hell the characters are.

less than a year after Toad closed Disney released The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad to VHS for the film's 50th anniversary. Good timing Disney. Prior to that the two portions of the film had only been released separately on less marketed VHSs (excluding the apparent laserdisc release but we all know how many kids used those) Kids don't know who he is because there is no merchandise, there is for Pooh and that's why there is a gift shop at the end of the ride. Toad, with it's two tracks, shorter ride time and more vehicles, had a higher hourly capacity than Pooh and didn't have Fastpass either (things that contribute to how long the wait is).

if I had my way, Disney would have kept Toad, drained 20K then and build a copy of TDL's Pooh's Hunny Hunt instead. Than everyone would have been happy.

That wouldn't have happened, because I think TDL made an agreement to have exlusive use of that technology for 10 years or something.

Plus, over the long haul, Disney bets more people would rather see the Little Mermaid attraction planned for that spot than Mr. Toad characters.

Not to mention the fact Disney is sort of going away from scary things in the Magic Kingdom in favor of "happy happy joy joy" attractions.

Exhibit B: Alien Encounter swapped out for Stitch's Great Escape

Remember Mr. Toad's train collision and ending actually scared some little kids and made them cry.

I remember seeing Mr. Toad's Wild Ride on 'The Wonderful World of Disney', which came on TV on Sunday nights.
Walt was usually the host, often accompanied by TinkerBell.

It's the only Mr. Toad feature that I know of.
The DVD with it is available on amazon and other places but it is combined with the Ichabod Crane headless horseman tale on the same DVD.
I have it and still enjoy Mr. Toad and his friends.

It is a cruel world and sometimes you have to shoot the runt of the litter. Mr. Toad was that runt and Pooh put a bullet in him.

C'mon, remember that Pooh is a bear of very little brain. Rabbit must have been behind the whole thing!

The question should be:

Do we need two Pooh attractions in one land?

I heard the same as MKCP 1985, Playful Spot is temporary and the mermaid is getting her attraction.

Well, Snow white's scary adventures hardly draws huge lines. Its probably one of the least attended dark rides in FL. Should that one be replaced too?

Oooh! Oooh! I have a great idea for a 101 Dalmation coaster! They are a bit understated in the parks...too bad imagineers don't take random suggestions. :p

BINGO! Now can we throw in talk of using mugs at other hotels/different visits and maybe something about wheelchairs and buses so we can just have all the over talked about topics in one area....oh and don't forget about the 5th gate. Heck even throw in AC now, that is getting up in that catagory also.

Let me start off by saying that this is not a knock on the pooh bear ride, I do happen to like that ride. But first Disney took part in a hostle take over forcing Mr. Toad to give up the deed to his house and ride to an owl. Then they killed him and he is burried in the pet cemetary in the HM.

To be serious for a moment, I loved that ride instead of bulding a pooh play ground couldn't they have put the pooh ride there. Then we could have kept Mr. Toad and he would still be alive. I was looking at sattilite pics of the space that 20K took up and there is enough room there for two rides or one big ride this space should not be wasted and Mr. Toad shouldn't be dead!!!

Lets see, they have tousands of acres that could be used. Nope, no room sorry.
I think its a shame when they close a ride when they could keep building new ones. They need to spread out the guests anyway.

Disneyland still has mr toads, and a new winnie the pooh.
