DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

There was a permit filed today for work on Little Mermaid, but it was related to fire protection so I am not reading to much into it. Even if it was going to close in a couple months this is the sort of work they probably couldn't put off.

Nope. I have trouble believing they will be open past 9/30 tho. Just my own thoughts there.
None of what they close ever seems like much of a loss to me. I guess the park had just gotten that stale. Realistically, by 2016 we are left with:

RnRC
ToT
Fantasmic
GMR
TSMM
HISTK (?)
Muppets (but for how long)
Star Tours
Indy (for how long?)
Frozen
Disney Junior

Anything else? Honestly, they need to do the Pixar stuff before Star Wars. How could they also close Indy, Muppets (?), and HISTK and still let guests in for five rides, one toddler show, one sing along, and Fantasmic?

They could always just leave the parks right hand side open and have the tickets be discounted.

I strongly suspect at least part of Pixar will be done quickly.

Those flats that were apparently purchased for Shanghai could easily go in over a year, or so, and would greatly lessen the blow of closures for Star Wars. And if BatB is just getting changed out for a new show as has long been rumored, there's no need for much delay on that.

That seems to be the speculation. Alas I sincerely doubt that's all of what Pixar means in this context.
I would hope this type of project would just take up the land southwest of Midway Mania and open to coincide with Midway Mania's new track and entrance. Thus the sudden need to have Jack Sparrow, OMD, and Mermaid close. It shouldn't take up too much space. It'd be kinda like when Storybook Circus opened before the rest of FLE as a way to throw us a bone to gnaw on while a more substantial Pixar project is still under construction along with, eventually, Star Wars.

Of course, this is just me saying how I'd carry out such a project. Who knows what they will do?

BatB would be changed out for what? Ive always said that a Mary Poppins musical show would be great. Loved by children, parents and grandparents for the most part. We stayed for Four For A Dollar a few years back and skipped BatB. The flats will be interesting. Shanghai is getting a lot of good things, so hopefully the flats will be impressive.

Newsies and Mary Poppins would be great choices. I've wanted to see both of them at DHS. It's too bad they couldn't have used one of the theaters to host a rotation of broadway caliber shows. Every few years swap one out for a new one. I also think with the eventual [speculation until Disney makes it official] closures of Mermaid and B&B they should have something like Golden Mickey's or one of those Cruise line shows that include the Princess's greatest hits. Serves everyone and gets rid of two shows, putting the best of them into one.

Anyway ... ready for D23 to get here. Keeping my expectations low for any real announcements. Let's hope they quickly throw up Toy Story Playland. I've never expected Star Wars before, if even then, 2019. Disney typically seems to take about three years for construction on major projects like that. It hasn't been that hard to sort of guesstimate any possible timelines.

Of course, this makeover should have happened in 2008/2009 when the park changed names the first time and Toy Story Mania was fresh and new. I believe Martin has said it's been on the table for about that long, anyway.

Tangled was the last rumor I heard. But that was a year ago. Not sure what was packaged with the current project. And I'm sure a theater enclosure project.

WDW1974 mentioned that there might be a daytime show at the Fantasmic! theater and it could be themed to Tangled.

Edit: this post
Wouldn't that be nifty. Wonder if they could get the mountain to look like the castle in Tangled?

I feel like I also heard a PatF show rumor at one point, too. So many to keep track of.

What about Newsies? The Broadway show is doing quite well; I think an adaptation would work quite well in DHS.

The Broadway production of Newsies closed a year ago. The tour is still running, though (and to your point, has been selling out large venues across the country).

The rumored BatB replacement, however, is Tangled, which could likely run with 3 live singers (Rapunzel, Flynn, and Mother Gothel), up from the two in BatB.

I've heard that Newsies is a great show, but Mary Poppins has more name value.

Whatever, we'll probably get Tangled. :p

Wouldn't be surprised if it plays well on the DCL. Though a part of me has an odd notion of getting the Lopezes to write a musical version of Big Hero 6, like they did for Finding Nemo. I would KILL to see Yokai on stage. Also- Fred musical number about his underwear.

I'm thinking it's gonna either be Tangled or Frozen, something they can actually use to bring more people in when half the park is closed.

Newsies is a good show, but it's not going to even come close to bringing in the amount if money or crowds Frozen or Tangled would bring in.

Wow, the Fantasmic mountain would fit perfectly as the Tangled Tower/mountain. Yes please. It makes sense as they could show Flynn/Rapunzel in their boat ... hmm. Then what would go into Theater of the Stars?

Will Mermaid's theater space be used for a show too or will that be gutted for something else?

I want answers! LOL. So impatient.
