DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

There were permits filed for the garages that actually included the costs:

West Garage, with the two connector buildings, the construction yard by Typhoon Lagoon, but not including the Buena Vista Drive road work: $55 million

East Garage with one connector building: $12 million.

These numbers fail to make sense.

It could be done a lot quicker if the inclination was there.

All of EPCOT Center took 36 months. Including the swampy bit at the start.

Ok... So it could be sped up some, but not as much as people think.

That was the early 1980's. It is comparing apples to oranges. So much has changed in the industry.

Government compliance alone... Operational requirements... And there are still only so many people you can put on something and around each other.

Now they could start tomorrow and overlap final design with the construction. Starting construction is the path to completion. Constant redesigns and endless budgeting seem to be the norm.

The Launch Bay is simply a short term offering and will most likely be open later this year/early next.

Oh...and people need to stop being fixated on the $3+ billion figure. That number includes a ton of infrastructure work as well as attractions for other parks. It isn't all being earmarked for attractions DHS, as some blogs, etc. have been throwing out there.

Finally something from someone with real insider information. Thanks.

These numbers are real, they come directly from the pubically available permit documents, but with that said there does seem to be a larger than expected difference in cost between the two garages. East is smaller then West, but not by as much as these numbers woukd suggest.

After looking at the permits again, it appears that the east garage is actually $49 million. The permit inially had a performance bond in $12 million, then they filed an updated permit which increased that to $49 million.

Parking garages cost about $17-20,000 a space. The variance is due to the cladding. So if this was a 2,500 cars that would be about right.

Universal has twin 10,000 car garages. I would expect one at DHS to be about 10,000 cars.

The trick is discovering who here has developed a solid reputation and who has not, and judging the info accordingly.

Hint: they are the ones whose general attitude seems to be that you can either discuss how right they are, or you can shut up and go away. They have no time for or interest in your skepticism.

But the nice thing about all Disney rumors is that they are unfalsifiable, so don't let the potential embarrassment of having been wrong deter you from proclaiming with great certainty. Get down with your bad selves! Bonus points for blaming your lack of evidence on lawyers.

Nope. Horizons was a sight to behold from every angle. Like Motion and Energy, it was designed to be seen from all sides by park guests and the LBV monorail line.

Even imagination wasn't a simple box warehouse. Single / double / triple levels. Overhanging upper level. An atrium built into the actual building as opposed to adding it on. A show room higher in parts than the floor of the Imageworks. Of all of Futureworld, Energy was perhaps the most in common with a warehouse. One vast open space with few support columns. Albeit one with sloping walls. And sloping roofs. And angled sides.
Regarding Horizons: As much as I loved the attraction I always felt the buildings for Horizons and to a lesser extant World of Motion were Ugly. Energy, The Land and Imagination were far better looking.

Not from me (I agree with you), but I'm sure this will be coming your way from some on here :) ...

Horizons was great for its time, and color scheme... But I would love to have seen how it could have been updated. But Imagination and The Land both look like relics from the 70s. That doesn't mean they don't fit. There's something really charming about those buildings.
