DHS and Epcot needs more for girls

As a female, Science Teacher who also loves Epcot. I have to say WHAT? I had to check the date of this post to make sure it was not posted pre WWII. Your post suggested that females have no interest in math, science and exploration, I beg to differ! I am not sure that you understand that your post was offensive and sexists.

Wow where to begin. Lets see, there is POTC, Pirates League, BTMR, anything in Tomorrowland, Tom Sawyer Island, HOP, Frontierland, Peter Pan Flight, the list goes on. But am not complaining. MK is more than fairly balanced, and like I mentioned in the OP has invested a lot toward families with girls in new Fantasyland. I just wish other parks would find that balance -key word: balance-
Balance for whom? Because it would appear others find the two parks more than adequate when it comes to the genders....

I couldn't disagree more. Like I said, I was the absolute picture of pink princess when I was a kid, and I absolutely loved the Peter Pan ride... so much that it's at the very top of my list for my trip in June. I don't know of a single thing in Tomorrowland that's more boy than girl... all of that stuff seems pretty neutral to me. Not to mention that you're completely ignoring my notation about PoC having mermaids in it... and again, this too was one of my faves as a kid. So no, none of that is anything NEAR boy-specific.

Still not convinced that the other parks lack balance... sorry.

Are you really bringing up your kids this way? Does your daughter not enjoy any of those? Would you forbid your son to do the Ariel ride in NF?

I don't think you're taking the very obvious hints left in the comments here.

Everything at Disney is for girls.

Except for the turkey legs. Those aren't for anybody.

Bahahaha! This just made me spit my drink out and laugh! DH can't wait to get to WDW and try their turkey legs since he likes them so much normally... I'm already plotting my first pretzel or ice cream to enjoy (while maybe sampling his turkey leg so I can say I tried it lol)

I do like turkey legs.. maybe that's my whole problem.

Well, there's the answer. By not wanting to go on ToT because you are a fraidy-cat is very girlish. Boys wouldn't go on it because they have made a decision that due to the possible danger involved, they made a wise choice and avoided it. Scared... no way... they just have responsibilities.
:joyfull:

Hah! Yep... there I go showing my girlish weakness in fear... because no little boy is ever scared of anything, right? ;)

I have an almost 5 yo daughter who LOVES Epcot as is! She love exploring WS trying new foods from around the world, not going to lie we also meet a few princesses and other characters. She love Test Track and Soarin' girls can't like designing cars and driving fast? My Daughter made a hot pink monster truck. All those famous female aviators would be upset to know little girls now a days hate flying. Figment is a cuddly purple dragon! My daughter begged to go on the "upside down room" ride. She loves that part. My daughter also enjoys science and learning new things. She likes to explore our world and see how things work. I guess we should stop watching Cosmos with her and start teaching her science is icky and only her brother should watch.

Frontierland is only for boys!?!? I guess I should tell my daughter she was wrong to pick BTMRR as her favorite ride on our last trip. No more playing pirate for her. I guess those pink pirate dresses at Pirate's League and mermaid dresses are for the men folk. More exploring caves, and crossing rope bridges for her. No more singing Yo- Ho or wishing she could fly like Peter Pan. All of Tommorrowland is out too? But she loved driving those cars and shooting things in Buzz Lightyear. Have I been raising her to be a boy?!?!? Is her whole life a lie!!?!

DH and I had originally planned a trip for early May. We were going to originally take DS(7) and DD(4), as this would be the kids very first time to Disney. As it looks now, a trip for all 4 of us just seems impractical and unfeasable because of financial situations. DH and I would still like to go ourselves to get our fix, and can easily arrange for the kids to stay with Nana and PapPaw during the week we would be gone. ((The kids do not know of planned trip ,so would not be disappointed)). We do not want to wait until the schools are out and have the crowd issue

We certainly are not leaving out the kids and will take many trips with them in the future. It is just the May trip that we cannot feasably go with all 4 of us.
WHY do you care about a balanced park? YOU'RE NOT EVEN TAKING YOUR KIDS! That's just selfish parenting.

I never once suggested girls cannot do anything. I am a woman, and I as well as anybody knows that females should feel empowered to do whatever they choose and go to where their heart takes them. Not sure why this is getting blown into a debate. Sorry if i offended anybody by suggesting there should be just a couple, few, little, small, tiny amount more offered at DHS and Epcot for little girls. Good day to this.

No you are implying that certain things are for boys only or girls only. Unless we are taking about adults using the restroom that is not the case.

The entirety of EPCOT Center was 100% geared towards girls of all ages. :)

If with a large helping of the more male-centric ideas of history and culture of thirty-five years ago. But that in turn much balanced by large doses of social progressivesness. It's a female engineer who ran that orange farm in Horizons!

It is lower case Epcot that has introduced gender segregation in EPCOT.

I can understand where you're coming from, but you really are generalizing.

Not all teenage girls conform to the girly, frilly, pink, princessy archetype. Some girls LOVE science, math, engineering. Other love animals, nature. Another girl may have a strong passion for music! The thing is, everybody likes something different. Not everybody who falls under a certain category are into the same things. I hate to be cliche, but that's great - it's what makes us special.

Although, I think that no matter what you're into, Disney has something for you. There is literally so much Disney has to offer even if you have to dig for it.

Furthermore, I don't think you have to be into technology to enjoy Epcot...
Anybody could have an amazing time there.

You're kidding me right? Disney is for anyone.. any sex, age, race, etc. Are you going to let your son walk through the castle or would that be too girly? I'm a guy and I'm not into cars and guns. I enjoy the LITTLE MERMAID and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST show just as much as Test Track. And there are an awful lot of girls in Tomorrowland and Frontierland for it to be geared just for boys. I know let's just let Adventureland, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland be male exclusive, then Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Storybook Circus can be female exclusive. Main Street's the only place where families can meet and have fun TOGETHER (as Disney was intended to be). Everyone has different interests. My favorite area in the park is Fantasyland. And a question...do the girls in your family stay in the Grand Flo while the boys stay in the WL? No that doesn't make sense...just like all of your reasons why DHS and EPCOT are geared towards boys.

I guess I just don't get the issue OP is having...DHS has the Little Mermaid show, BatB show, several things that if you want to give them a gender assignment would be gender neutral like TSMM, Muppets, Playhouse Disney on stage, Hollywood & Vine character meal (although, Sophia and Doc make those more girly), and a few other things. In Epcot, you've got a super popular princess meal, princess meet and greets in most of the countries, and gender neutral things like Imagination, Crush, Nemo, etc. If anything, I'd say this is plenty and would be princess girly girl overkill redundancy to add any more.

Most girls young and old are not into all the science, space exploration, and cultural offerings. That is more educational and geared for the males.

That's because we live in a society that somehow perpetuates the idea that maths and sciences should be male dominated.

By no means should girls be disinterested in space. I don't care what chromosomes you have, that is interesting stuff. People just have to stop stigmatizing girls who are interested in science.
