I’ve never planned a trip around d23 exclusively. I signed up for some of the e merch drop sessions for when I go in like 2 weeks so looking forward to that!

I am going to Destination D23 and still really looking forward to it - some really fun sounding panels (Phineas and Ferb, the Villains, X Atencio ... hearing Michael James Scott and Danny Gardner perform, hearing from Roy P. Disney, the 80s/90s bash, etc

plus usually some good giveaways :)

This will be a fun event for anyone who has tickets and goes.
Don’t let the lack of potential ‘big breaking news’ announcements kill off your excitement.
You will still likely have a good time.

It’s basically a fan festival, and a shopping spree rolled into one.
If that is your thing, this will be for you.

Also, if it is anything like past Destination D events, D23 absolutely weighs you down with a TON of giveaways.
The one time I attended a few years ago, I had a carry on bag full of all of the stuff they gave me ‘for free’…and still had to mail things home!
Giant ‘Lug’ backpack packed full of Disney stuff, pins, large vinyl Figment figure ( in box ), Lorcana cards, exclusive merch, embroidered patches, mini Attraction poster, paper goods, mini plush, ….just a load of stuff.
All included with my admission.

So you will not go home empty handed even if you buy nothing from the various pop up shops.

If you do still feel discouraged by the recent schedule reveal, then maybe this might help ease your mind -
Earn your ticket money back by just ‘flipping’ some of the goodies you will likely be coming home with on the resale market.
This will likely cover the ticket price you paid and offset any potential disappointments you may have had regarding the experience itself.

So, either way you look at it, this can be a positive experience for you!
:)

Last D3, we got the five-year plan.

So... what are people expecting... the four-year plan?

Yes, I know people would like "updates," but when has D23 given construction updates? The only updates they've done are when new attractions are about to be finished within the coming year and they're starting to market them.

More details and concept art on what all they are planning to do, but we all know how that usually goes. Nice concept art just shows us everything they cut once the project is done

I’d like to see a lot more AK expansion (additional attractions) and a night show along with a new attraction at Epcot (along with a spaceship earth and figment redo) and maybe some Tomorrowland attention

They “should’ have plenty of material to talk about and share that’s coming (new along with updates) if they plan correctly, but… the fact that their 5yr plan involves less than Uni who built an entirely new theme park in less time is sad

Disney has been steadily building new things. Universal simply doesn't, this is their first true expansion since KONG

imagine all the people who planned to go to D23 to see park news but have no park panel now lol
While I get how that'd be upsetting, especially if that's all you wanted to see, I feel like it should be more common knowledge in the fandom that Destination D23 is the smaller event that doesn't always have announcements? They've had them in the last two, but before that it wasn't a guarantee. They've already announced a ton and have a lot under development, so I'm honestly not surprised they aren't having a dedicated announcement panel. All the US parks except Disneyland and Epcot have major construction projects going on, and Epcot and Disneyland just got some major stuff so they're set for a while. I think all the foreign parks other than Disneyland Paris have major projects announced/underway (DLP does have the Rivers of the Far West update though), and I don't think they'd do announcements for just DLP. (On that note, DLP could use some new attractions, iirc it hasn't had a new attraction since... Hyperspace Mountain in 2017? Which was just a replacement? The last original new-build attraction was Indiana Jones in 1993??)

Destination D23 is more about the general fandom, like learning behind the scenes stuff and history. Hopefully the disappointed people can find some cool panels they'd enjoy. I've never been to any D23 event, mostly because money, but I'm sure there's more exciting stuff than just announcements you can read online/watch a livestream for anyways.

I do wonder if the past 2 Destination D23 having a parks panel and this is the line on the presentation highlights page
  • Enjoy panels celebrating the attractions, entertainment and experiences that define Disney theme parks and cruise ships.
is what led to people believing there would be a parks panel this time? Hopefully this is a wakeup call for those in the fandom that Destination D23 is not the D23 Expo but just informative panels mostly about the past with the occasional reference to what they're working on now. I'm surprised at the amount of people on social media asking if they can actually attend all the panels as they're expecting them to be in different places like at D23 Expo, when it's really just a series of panels in one room. I think they might just need to either not market Destination D23 as being the biggest ever when its the same content as normal but in a larger venue, or just make it clearer that Destination D23 is not D23 Expo

I have no dog in this fight, as I am not a D23 member, nor do I see myself ever attending one of these events. That said, I don't think it is unreasonable that a casual fan, who has heard that there have been big Parks announcements in previous years and seen this advertised as their biggest ever, would purchase tickets to this event hosted at the crown jewel of the Disney Parks empire and expect updates on some of the many announced projects under construction at said resort.

That may be the longest sentence I have ever typed. It's certainly up there.
