Destination D23 2021

This thread shows what an isolated bubble this forum lives in.

The general public knows nothing of an off-putting attempt at a joke by the CFO at a quarterly call.

D23 isn't a quarterly or stockholder meeting with questions being asked (wait until the beginning of 2022 for that).

If you think that people who are paying big bucks to hobnob with Disney bigwigs at D23 are upset about the $15 Genie+ fee, then you don't know this crowd.
None of the people I know IRL are as into Disney as I am and they are all aware of the Disney Genie app.
Take that as you will, of course this is just personal experience and it can vary person-to-person.

My professor took her three daughters to Disney for the first time this past September. They absolutely loved it! They are already booked for the same time next year.

When she told me about it, she seemed super excited, but she tagged on a minor anecdote "I'm don't like the Genie thing though."

If a one-time guest is complaining about Genie, that's a bad sign.

Quote from the D23 podcast out today -

“I’m sorry, I had every intention of trying to make it this year, as you know I’ve made the last several. I really love that event. Unfortunately, this year given the new job and given the tugs I get from several different areas it’s impossible for me to make it but I will be there in spirit.”

He's sorry for not attending the event or for all the budget cuts?

Ah I wish it was the latter.

They could have easily had Josh D'Amaro announce a few popular things to get the crowd in a groove and have him bring in Chapek to announce whatever the best part is. They know how to work the superfans if booing was the only concern. Definitely a win-win though as IMDREW said because he's not the strongest public speaker anyway.

How cool! I knew plans had shifted. And Potter is now also going in EU and not Fantastic Beats?

To tack onto what Casper added, it sounds like the Potter plan for EU is to have it themed to Fantastic Beasts Paris (but in the Potter timeframe) - but in the main attraction you'll be whisked to the British Ministry of Magic.

Well that’s slightly confusing! I just hope we get the bakery that sells the items shaped like magical creatures like in the movie!

We complain that Chapek is a lifeless mannequin then complain when we’re not forced to sit through his speeches.

Josh delivering an announcement in a non-Chapek way will generate more buzz. I don’t see why we’re complaining, other than to get an easy jab on Chapek.
There are two options on this site:

1) Masks RAWRRR!
2) Chapek is a cancer and I’m working on an mRNA vaccine that will target and DESTROY HIM but in the mean time, he’s so stupid and it is funny to make fun of stupid people lol

Option 3 had been ”is the Dining Plan worthwhile” but there‘s no DDP so no typey-typey.

I think it’s more about his lack of integrity rather then being upset about not hearing him speak.
